three days in--questions

So, I've made it through about three days. It's been pretty good. I've mostly discovered that I want to eat when I'm stressed. Unfortunately, that's most of the time since I'm in grad school. After 9:30 p.m. is also bad for me. I've been counting calories, and it seems so easy. I'm afraid I'm doing it wrong, it is so easy. I am confused though about how many calories I should eat in order to lose weight. One source says to maintain my current weight, I would eat about 2500 calories a day. Then another source says to lose weight in the way that I would like to, I have to cut out 500-999. I don't know whether it means to cut out the calories from the maintaining calories or from the daily recommended number of 2000. And I don't know when it becomes unhealthy for me. Any thoughts or recommended sources for information?

The calories should be deducted from the maintaining calories number. Most of us here go between 1200 - 1500 per day. Going below 1200 is unhealthy. I find calorie counting easy, but you'll have to watch the serving size. Sometimes for example they list the calories per 100g and the package is 200g.
Good luck and congratulations on the 3 days. Keep it up!!
