Hello
I'm Barbara & I stepped on the scale today and just cried. I have reached my highest weight ever of 255. I have seen the scale go up and down for more times that I can count. My main problem is emotional eating. I am 105 lbs over the weight I would like to be which is 150. I really need to get motivated again. Any suggestions you can give me will be helpful.
Barbara

You say that your biggest problem is emotional eating. At least you recognize what area you need to work on. When you get upset or down or whatever makes you overeat, try writing down what your feeling before heading to the kitchen. Or coming here and writing to us. By the time you have finished getting your feelings down in writing, you may have calmed down enough that you aren't wanting to gobble the fridge contents in one sitting. Also, counting to 30 helps me. Or 60 if necessary. Or 100. You get the picture. The important thing is to remember to control your emotions, not let them control you. Good luck, and come back soon and often.
Well, I think the best two things for me were 1) joining Curves, and 2) finding this board.
In joining Curves, I found it easy to work out knowing only older, chubby women like myself were there (smile) instead of tiny gals. Also, since my manager there has a BS in athletic medicine, I get lots of tips on weight loss. I pack my work-out bag and take it with me to work so I don't have a reason to skip the gym. When there, I chat with women working out about all kinds of things. It's a really small, intimate setting, so I feel comfortable.
Since weight loss is not all about the physical aspects, however, I joined this board for emotional support. The women here are very willing to share how they feel, what they go through, etc. during dieting. Nothing can beat having a psychologist, I know, but I'd rather be with people who cam empathize with my condition rather than sympathize and analyze. I might seek help at some later point, but working out, teaching, volunteering at school, and going to college at night really takes up a lot of my time.
Hmmm... maybe keeping yourself very busy also helps out?
Whatever it is you do, you will at least be doing something good for you! Just coming here shows you're ready to go! Just think positively, post often, and give it your best, even when the results aren't what you want. You'll really like it here. I like everything from the openness to Shawna's ever changing signatures. :)

Welcome to the boards Barbara.
Thank you all for your words of wisdom, advice, support & not to mention the warm welcome you have given me. I am happy to say that when I weighed in today, I was down 5 pounds!
