Things I've learned

I've just started trying to lose weight again. Some things I've discovered during this past week:
1. An actual serving size is MUCH different than what I would normally eat in one sitting.
2. For some odd reason, the more water I drink, the more my skin feels dry. Weird.
3. "just one little bite won't hurt" is a load of crap! That "one little bite" usually turns into "just one box of goodies".
4. I'm not ready to add a lot of excercise yet, but I can do little things throughout the day to get moving. (i.e. housework, window shopping, parking further from the door when I go grocery shopping, etc.)
5. Thirst is often mistaken for hunger. Discovered this one by drinking a glass of water first if I felt really hungry, but had already eaten.
6. Message boards are cool! Thanks for the support and advice everybody. And I'd like to take just a sec to welcome all the newbies. (Yes, technically I AM one, but it doesn't feel that way)
Good luck!
Katherine (362.8/362.8/145) P.S. My first weigh-in update is Tuesday. Wish me luck!!

Sounds like you have learned a lot in the past week. I definately wish you luck on Tuesday. A couple of things that i have learned that have helped is that fiber keeps you fuller longer. Also, if i can wait out a craving and just wait 10 minutes or so, get my mind occupied by something else, then i usually "forget" that i was hungry and craving something. And, some foods, while even low in calories but are high in sugar, will just cause you to crave MORE sugar. I love icecream sandwiches, and if i buy the mini sized icecream sandwiches they are only 100 calories...sounds great...but once i eat one...i am starved for carbs 20 minutes later. SO even though they are low in cals, i avoid them and instead eat a Kashi bar which is LOADED with fiber and it holds me til the next meal easily. So keep that blood sugar low and you will find you are hungry less and have less cravings....even if your not a diabetic blood sugar affects your appetite.
Again, good luck on tuesday.

Hey thanks for the welcome! It is nice to see that you are tring to do this weightloss thing. I want to too. Seems like we are all just REAL people with REAL concerns. You don't need to worry about some skinny personal trainer telling you to just drop the snacks cause it is just NOT that easy! Thanks for the "Things I've Learned" thread. You are one step ahead of me! lol.
