I was way over weight with all three of my kids. I was 265 when I got pregnant with my last one. (17 years ago). I didn't have any of the problems that you are asking about. Even now at age 54 I am very healthy. NO high sugar or cholestorl problems. Maybe I am just lucky, don't know. I am sure if you eat healthy you should be ok. I had all three C-section because my body wouldn't dialate. My pelvis wouldn't open more than 3 cm. But that had nothing to do with the weight. I'm probably not much help am I? Good luck Stephanie

Hi i am currenly preggo and over weight.. I have never had gd with either of my children so far and will get tested soon with this one too My first child was vaginal and Trey was c-section but that was not due to my weight it was due to fetal distress.. I am hoping for a repeat section with this one cause I do not want to go through having the emergency section again.. Trey was large and I am already measuring a cpl weeks ahead with this one.. Hope I answered your questions

With my second child I was overweight.I started my pregnancy at 235 pounds and ended it at 265.My Dr. was extremely supportive and nice about me starting out overweight...in fact,I think I was more critical then he was.All the problems I had with my pregnancy, spotting and high BP had more to do with the pregnancy itself then my weight. He was born emergency c-section,but only because his heart rate wouldn't recover and I wasn't dialated enough(I sort of believe that the more medical intervention you have, the more likely you'll end up with a c-section.My oldest,I had no drugs, nothing and let nature take it's course...my youngest I wanted to try an epidural and then needed pitocin because my contractions stopped). If I were to get pregnant at my weight now(which is 225),I would feel confident that things would be ok.

I weighed somewhere between 265-275 at the beginning of each of my 2 pregnancies. With my first I had high bp near the end, but dr attributed that just to the pgcy not my weight. Other than that I had no problems or issues come up at all. I gave birth vaginally, and rather quickly both times too! I had a great dr who never even once said anything about my weight. We are actually trying for #3 right now and I don't expect things to be different this time around.

I know there are a lot of drs out there who do have a bias against obese women and pregnancy and will tell you all these bad things will happen, but just because they say so doesn't mean YOU will have any problems. If you do have a dr who makes you feel uncomfortable in any way because of your weight...find a new one!

Good luck to you!!

Hi,
I don't post much on this board anymore because I'm 25 weeks pregnant. I'm about 5'4" and 260 now I think...I was around 250 before the pregnancy. I have a boy who is almost 2, I weighed 240 when I got pregnant with him. He was born totally healthy, 7 lb. 13 oz (not even big), I did not develop gestational diabetes or preeclampsia or any other disorders of pregnancy. It was a very healty pregnancy and a very healthy baby. I think I gained 18 pounds total during the pregnancy. It was a vaginal birth and I plan to go vaginal again this time.

So far I have had a flawless pregnancy with this baby (a girl). No blood pressure problems or diabetes so far. I get tested next month for GD, but I'm hoping to avoid it again.

I think eating well, exercising and avoiding substances (alcohol, nicotine, caffeine) is a bigger part of a healthy pregnancy than starting body weight. I eat very nutritiously when pregnant, I just need to learn to translate that to when I'm not pregnant!

Good luck!
Erin

Hi, I am usually a lurker but your post caught my eye. I know that the majority of obese women have perfectly normal pregnancies, but I'm one of those who had problems due to my weight. I am NOT trying to terrify you. I just want to share my experience so you'll have an ideal of what

Well with my first dd (12) I weighed 209, was borderline diabetic and I gained 60 pounds and she delivered vaginally at 9lbs 8ozs. My ds (9), I weighed 210 and gained 60 some odd pounds again and delivered him vaginally and he weighed in at 9 lbs 9 ozs. My last pregnancy, a dd (19mos),I weighed 270 and she was a big ole suprise , so my doctor sent me for an ultrasound to determine the baby's age. During which they could not find my right ovary. Turns out I had a apple-sized cyst hanging from fallopian tube, Well they left it in since it wasnt hurting anything yet. My doctor sent me to a nutritionist, who put me on a low carb diet, 200 carbs a day. Between that and morning sickness I dropped down to 252, but at the end of my pregnancy I weighed in at 293. My daughter was born vaginally at 11 lbs 2 ozs. So after that I got my tubes tied and had my cyst taken care of . So I guess what I am saying is that I had a tendency to have large babies. Jen

I have 1 baby (he's 1.5 years old now). I started at around 200-210 (didn't own a scale) and ended the pregnancy at around 265 (!!). No complications during the pregnancy. The baby was 10 days overdue, still had a vaginal birth. Had a healthy baby 7.5 lbs.

My doctors tells me I can get pregnant again anytime. I saw him when I was around 240 lbs. (I am not pregnant right now, I need to catch up on some sleep until I think about that LOL)

If your doctor is making you uncomfortable because of your weight, change him!
