Hi Everyone!

I am new to iVillage and this board. I've been reading the posts here and had to post here! I'm 34 yrs old, SAHM of 2 (ages 10 and 8). I'm 5'7" and weight 270lbs. My weight is the first thing I think of when I wake up, what I think of constantly throughout the day and the last thing I think of when I go to bed. I'm totally consumed by my weight. I want/need to lose weight desperately. I feel like I'm not going to live to see my kids graduate from school. I need to get this weight off! I've been heavy ever since I can remember. But since graduating from high school in 1989, I've gained 100 lbs. I've steadily gotten heavier and heavier. I've even considered gastric bypass surgery. The only reason I don't want to do the surgery is because I want to have one more child and I've been told that I would have to wait 2 years after gastric bypass before trying to conceive. So I've decided to do it the hard way. Eating right and exercising. One of my problems is that I severely broke my ankle 2 years ago. Because of this injury, it is very painful for me to exercise. I feel pain with every step I take. This is another reason why I want to lose weight. I think my ankle will feel better. I'm sorry to ramble on, I'm just feeling overwhelmed today.

Can anyone tell me what they've done to lose weight. I would love to hear from people in this 100 pounds or more to go category.

Thanks for listening!

Coming here to the boards is a great first step in the weight-loss journey. I just started coming here a couple of weeks ago, and everyone has been super nice and supportive. I think its important to have a good support structure before starting a "diet". (although, I think diet is one of those "four-letter words" :)) Anyway, start with changing your attitude towards food and focus on eating healthy, balanced meals. The excercise will come with time. Try doing little things thoughout the day to get you moving more. Like parking just a little further away from the front door when you go shopping. Good luck to you. Come back whenever you want to chat, post ideas or victories, or just want to vent to someone about your day.

Welcome to the board and congratulations on a good start. Starting the journey is always the hardest part for me. Now you can just keep going. You came to the right place for support and motivation. We all know what it means to be that much overweight and tired of it. Please feel free to ask for any advice and to share any tips & tricks. We can all do this!!!
