New and extremely frustrated...help!

Hi everyone. Here's my story in a nutshell...I'm in my early 30s, and one year after my mother passed away in 1994, I lost about 100 lbs. over the span of a year. I managed to keep it off and then got married in 2001. My marriage fell apart, and got a divorce in December 2004, and as each year went by, the weight slowly started to creep back up...now I am almost back where I started, but now I am 10 years older...I cannot stick to a diet for the life of me, but have been exercising 7 days a week for the past 6 weeks, with absolutely no results. I would like to concentate on 5-10 lbs. at a time to see what happens...any ideas? Could I be doing the wrong kind of exercises? I do cardio and also mix a little bit of weight training along with the exercise ball. I was sick about 3 months ago and had my thyroid checked...it is normal. I am on the pill (just starting my 3rd month), but I can't imagine that it is causing all the trouble...I do stress eat and probably eat too late at night...I guess I just need a kick in the pants to get myself started again...can you help? Any thoughts/suggestions?

Hi there. The pill causes weight gain in some people. So you may want to check that (ask the doctor or other people who used it to see if there is a side effect of weight gain).
Also you said you were doing weight training, that could add muscle weight. Are you losing any inches? Clothes getting looser? Cuz if you were, then you're losing fat and gaining muscle (which is a good thing, muscle increases metabolism and will accelerate weight loss on the long run).

But I would really advice you to journal for a few days. Write down every bite you're putting in your mouth and see how it goes. Things may be adding up and you can be surprised on how many calories you're actually eating. Also write down why you're eating (hungry, board, just because food is there, stressed for so and so, etc) Once you do that, you don't need to go on a diet, just look at your journal and see what you can save. A bite here and bite there can add up.

And welcome to the board!

Hey lady,

Well i was in the same boat as you about 3 months ago. I got off of Lexapro and that was a BIG help with weight loss. Ask your doc if any of your meds raise insulin? Or better yet, look it up on the internet...most doctors will tell you it will not affect your weight but IT DOES.

Secondly, keep a record of EVERYTHING you put in your mouth. You would be amazed how fast a pat of butter here, a tbls of oil there, and mayo can REALLY add up. Keep a record and that will show your weaknessnes and certain foods that will trigger cravings.

Good luck,
stacy

Thank you for the suggestions...I will try the journal thing. I'm not on any other meds except for Claritin and Nexium only when I really need it...and my BC is progesterone-only...anybody know if that makes a difference?

I am down a 1.5 lbs. from yesterday, but I think its water weight fluctuations...but its still encouraging!
