Help Just starting to lose it

Hi all,

I am new to this board and I am a short woman weighing 230 lbs. I've been heavy off and on during my adult years (not when I was young), but never this heavy. I think this may be the result of yo yo dieting. I also take some medications that cause weight gain, but I also haven't been eating exactly right.

It is great to see a board were others have this much to lose. I am mostly just counting calories and exercising aerobically.

I would appreciate any support and suggestions that any can give. I think I've lost 3 whole pounds, but am not sure.

Thanks a lot

Welcome to the board Pam. This is a great place to turn to for support and motivation. I would suggest you try journaling what you eat for a few days. Write down every bite you have. You will be surprised on how much you actually eat. Also try writing what you feel (ex. hungry, bored, just because food was there). Then look at your journal and see what better choices can be made.
Also, is there a possibility to change the medication you're on?

Congrats on the good start with exercise!

Hi Merry,

Thanks for the warm welcome. Writing down what I eat is a very good idea. I remember years ago in weight watchers we did that and it worked, lost 50 lbs., but put more than that back on. I will try that.

The medication has to stay as is for the time being. The alternative medications have side effects that are worse for me. I still believe I can do it despite the medication, however, it may slow down progress a bit.

I know this time I don't want to be yo yoing. As it comes off I want it stay. I'm sure everyone probably feels that way.

you can do it!!! My brother has the same problem with being on medication and gaining weight. Though he is extremely physically active-plays multi-sports on very competitive levels he gained over 30lbs. in less than a month. Luckily we figured out that it was the medicine making him so hungry. He just has to be more careful by weighing himself often and watching what he eats-wish I had his dedication. I'm learning from him slowly but surely that I am the only one who can control what I put in my body-and that is the hardest thing of all for me. Keep going though because its worth it.

Hi Pam,

I am short also and weigh 235 lbs. I started drinking about 100 oz of water a day 3 weeks ago and I feel so much better. My clothes are fitting better. So I decided to try to drink this amount forever (smile). Also, I am cutting back on carbs.

3 lbs is Great!!!!!!

Wow Yolanda,

That's a lot of water. Water is supposed to be good for you though and I guess your experience proves that. I know if I drank that much water I'd have to move my desk into the ladies room :)

Thanks for the support.
