Time to lose a lot of weight

I have just discovered this site. I am 20 years old and have just reached my most weight of my life: 270 lbs. My ultimate goal is to get to the weight that I remember being most satisfied at: 145. 125 pounds. Think I can do it? One of the reasons I have not been able to is because I don't have much support/reason to do it. But now, I've just gotten too big. I don't look like it because I am a bit tall (5'10"-ish) and I have a large frame. But, I'm not nearly as comfortable/confident as I used to be. I don't want to find myself 30, 35, 40 years old, still over 200 pounds. I know that I am severely overweight and I want to do something about it. I've looked at many of the posts here and I think this site and you guys will help me on my quest. I have a good idea of what I am (and am not) going to eat. I am in a bit of a difficult situation as I am living in a place where I only have limited access to the stove/oven, so most of my food is prepared in the microwave or toaster oven. I think I can do it, though. I will be relying heavily on fresh veggies and I will try to open myself up to fruits since I never have really liked them. I know this will take a while and will be hard, especially since I am a very busy college student and working girl (no, not that kind of working girl...lol). I will be keeping a log of my food and exercise which I will have on this site and update it often. I hope to talk to you guys soon. Good luck to me and to you!

Welcome to the board and congratulations on the decision to lose weight. I think it's much easier to lose weight when we're younger. Hope to see you around here often. Good luck!!

Hi there. You're around my age (I'm 22). I reached my heaviest when I was around 15 or so, I was 302 lbs. I got down to 240 and stayed there for about 2 years. I recently put back on some weight, and got up to 260. I had to get on the wagon. Now with some hard work and dedication I'm currently at 237. Trust me, anything is possible. The biggest thing is making lifestyle changes. You really have to think in terms of stuff you can keep up with. My two main points are portion control and exercise. It took me about a month or so of concentration, but I think I got the portion control part down. I'm always trying to push myself a little further with the exercise. I started off with 45 minutes 3x a week, now I'm up to 1 hr 45 minutes 3x a week. We all have the tools we need to lose weight, the hardest part is putting it into action. I always fear that I'm going to mess up. But, I keep thinking about what my Mom tells me. If you fall off, don't give up, get right back on. If I skip a workout, or eat something I shouldn't have, it's not a death sentence. Just get back up the next minute, hour, or day, and keep pushing foreward. I found that keeping a blog is really helping me. Even though no one is reading my blog (I sure hope not), it still feels public to me, and it makes me want to fight harder to do the right things. Good luck and keep going. ~Tasha :)

I was in the same boat you are in with school and being busy. Somethings that help-keep a bag of veggies with you at all times, stringcheese can make a great snack-its high in fat-but its also got lots of protein-its less than 100 calories-and it fills you up-it also gives you something to do with your hands, soups can be made in the microwave healthy and cheap-just get the lower sodium versions-less salt is a good thing, and get a big water bottle-I mean big that has all the water in it that you need for a day-even on a day when you don't eat healthy-and there will be days-you can at least finish your water bottle, and you will feel healthier for tommorow.

Hi Ashley, and welcome to the board. I've found that microwave cooking can actually be to my advantage. Frozen vegis can be nuked on high for 6-7 minutes without adding any water to them. Just stick 'em on a plate and nuke. Try a little shredded cheese on them if you don't like them plain. Also, vegetable soups can be cooked in the microwave. And there are a lot of low-fat frozen entrees out there to try. Also, raw vegis w/ fat-free ranch dressing make for good snacks. And low-fat popcorn. High in fiber, so it really keeps you satisfied. For excercise, try taking the long way walking to classes or home from school. Or park further away from the door than you normally would. It all adds up. Good luck to you.
