Hello. I joined this website about a week ago & I've been hanging out at the Losing Weight board, but I wanted to come here & introduce myself to you all as well. My name is Ang. I started my "life style change" in January, 2005. At the time, I weighed 272 & I am now down to 212. My goal weight is somewhere around 145. I did really well from January through September. I hit a plateau at 207 lbs, but continued on. Well, no matter what, I couldn't get past it. So, I became discouraged & went back to my old ways for a while, gaining 5 lbs. during that time. Now, I'm ready to jump back into it. My only problem is that it's Holiday time & that is sooooo hard for me! Literally, all we do at work for the month of Dec., is eat, eat, eat... bad stuff! For the past 11 months, I've done okay with portion control, but I'm so worried that will change during the holidays! Also, exercise is much harder for me in the winter. In the Spring/Summer I can walk my dogs outside at night & I know they love it, so I kind of do it for them as well as for me. Now, it's dark when I get home from work & I don't like to walk in the dark, so now all I have is my treadmill, which is great to have, but also very boring. I do watch TV while walking, but it's just not the same as walking outside. Anyway - that's me in a nutshell. I'm glad to have found this board!

Hello Ang and congratulations on the weight lost so far. This is a great achievement! About exercising at home, did you try music? I used to watch TV while on the stationary bike, but unless there is a really great show, it gets boring. But I found that if I used music, it's much better. I complied a CD with lighter music at the beginning and the end and real fast music in the middle. And it really helped me.

I know what you mean about bad food at the office. I'm starting to face that lately. But when somebody offers something I shouldn't have, this is what I tell myself: "remember how you waited for a week to see that 1 pound go off. Are you ready to undo this in one day? I don't think so". You lost a lot of weight already and I bet that took a lot of dedication and hard work for the past 11 months tell yourself this: is it worth it to redo everything again just for the sake of joining the wave this month? I bet it was hard work to lose that weight and I bet you don't want it back.

Hope to get to know you better in the upcoming days Ang.

Thanks for the welcome Mary! You're right - I did work very hard for this & I'm hoping & praying I can continue to lose during the holidays!

The CD is a great idea! I will definately do that.

Thanks again!

Hi. Fellow newcomer here. I'm jealous of you already, you and your weight loss :) Maybe in a year I can say I did as well as you have. Really though, just put your mind on something besides food. Stay busy. Get a list of things you need to do and kick it in the butt. When you achieve a lot, your pride and sense of well being will rise, and you won't feel the need for food. I used to make the mistake of thinking about food all the time. That's a really difficult way to lose weight. Make food an afterthought. A preoccupation with food will leave you feeling bored when it's not "time" to eat, and you'll end up eating to entertain yourself or satisfy your void. Well, that's been my experience anyway. Then once you eat it, you're bored again and you just ate unnecessarily, sabotaging your goals. Good luck.
