Hello all. My name is Shannon and I need to lose 100+lbs. I am 28 yrs old, just had my second child, and am 5'11 298 lbs. When I had my baby he weighed 9lbs 8oz and had trouble stabilizing his blood sugar. I had tested for diabetes in my 6th month and it was negative but judging from some of my symptoms post childbirth, I knew something was up. I went to the doc and sure enough, it looked as if I had developed the onset of type 2 diabetes. He has suggested that I start the South Beach diet and I was wondering how many of you have tried it and does it work??? I'm hoping to get a handle on my health for the sake of my 2 children. I would love any advice you all could give me and just wanted to introduce myself to the board. Thank you and I look forward to getting to know you!

Take Care!

Hi Shannon -
I was on Adkins for a few weeks and lost 30 pounds...then i got off and lost that "golden one shot" oppourtunity (sp)....look into that...it means that you only get one shot at losing that inital weight...and it is suppose to be the one time you can lose a lot. There were several posts to that subject either here or on the Adkins site here at IVillage.
Now I have gained all my weight back...and for three days I have been feeling dizzy and not well at all...

Welcome to the board Shannon. If I ever decide to go on a formal diet, I think it will be South beach. I noticed that cutting carbs really helps my weight loss. And I think South beach is better than going to something drastic like Atkins. For me, cutting all carbs seems crazy (although I know it works). South beach also stresses vegetables & dairy & good carbs, thus promotes healthy food choices, which for me makes sense more than other diets. Anyways, enough rambling. Good luck!
