I’ve tried to stick to low carb diets and low fat diets, One thing in common with both
I could not stick with either one.
I’ve read up on many diets and below is what I have come up with.
( Basically get one protein in at each meal, stay away from highly fat or fried food,
and include 5 fruits and veggies everyday as well as a lot of low fat calcium)
The ways I plan to achieve this: Exercising 5 times a week
(3 days a week cardio/2 days a week strength training)
Watching what I eat – basically eating a good breakfast
(with complex carbs and good protein)
Snacking on LOW GI fruit and nuts for snacks-
eating a nice big salad full of broccoli, onion, carrots,
salad, and nuts with a oil and vinegar dressing for
lunch most days of the week and for dinner eating a frozen lean cuisine
or the like for dinner most of the time.
For dessert I would indulge in sugar free fudge pop
I will limit my portions of pasta, pizza,
burgers, fries, bread and Ice Cream to once in a while.
Typical day
Breakfast: 1 cup of frosted shredded wheat with half a cup of low fat milk
and 1 table spoon of low sugar peanut butter on top of
1 slice of whole wheat bread.
Snack: an Apple
Lunch a big salad full of broccoli, onion, carrots, salad,
and nuts with a oil and vinegar dressing with water or a diet coke
Snack: low fat vanilla yogurt cup (8oz) not sweetened with sugar
Dinner: a frozen dinner meal or a protein with a salad.
Snack: fudge pop or fruit
I'm hoping to make a life change here and I have decided to set my goals
in .05 percent of my body weight.

I know I will still be considered overweight when I go off to college
but I'll be a much healthier overweight.

Hi Sara--
Sounds like you have a definite plan going into losing weight! That's great. I've tried plans before but I don't stick to them very well, so this time around (the last time!) I just plan on eating less and exercising more. It's okay right now because I have so much to lose that just changing my habits a little bit should help, but I know I'll have to get stricter as I lose weight.
Congrats on doing this before college! I found that was when my problems really started..I was about 10-15 pounds overweight in high school but really active, so I could eat whatever. Went to college, lost the activity and ate much more fast food/takeout/crap and that's where I started. So I think you're doing a great thing tackling this now.
Keep me posted!

Sounds like you have a great plan worked out. I plan my weekly meals and this really helps me to be on track. But take care not to over obsess about it. Thinking about food all day can really trigger some nasty cravings. And being 18 is on your side. It's great that you're starting this early. I lost about 45 pounds when I was around 17 and kept it off for over 5 years. Believe me, it was much easier then (I'm 26 now). I guess the younger you are, the easier it is.
Good luck and keep us posted!
