I am happy to say, I got to weigh today and have lost 11 lbs. so far! I started at 267 and realistically, I need to go below 150 to be in my healthy range. That overwhelms me, so I try to stick with the smaller goals. My husband and I are working on things and he is really trying now and being much more positive. He's in the Navy and we just found out we will be moving to Virginia in Oct. I would like to lose 60 lbs. by then. We are in Italy now, and losing weight is definitely a challenge here. Wish me luck!

Laura,
Congratulations on the 11 lbs! Thats awesome. You are doing the right thing, keep your mind on the smaller goals. It sounds corny but try and picture what you would do at your healthy weight(playing sports, dancing etc.) Whenever I feel like I dont want to do anymore, I try and visualize "me" doing it at a smaller weight. It works. Keep up the good work!

Thanks Rebekah! I would really like to be a runner one of these days. My husband is in excellent physical condition (runs the physical training for the base where we live) and I would really like to go run with him sometime and not slow him down, at least not too much. :)

WTG on the weight loss.

Fran,
I have to say, so far it has been an incredible experience. I actually live on a tiny island in the Med and it is considered the Caribbean of Europe, so the beaches and summers here are spectacular. Right now it's just cold and windy. Dieting here really isn't THAT bad, as long as I control the pasta, which is a major weakness of mine. They use a lot of tomato based sauces, seafood, and salad here, so there are always healthy choices when we do go out. I'd be in serious trouble if we lived in Tuscany. The gelato is another thing that could easily put me over the edge (beats American ice cream by far), but my favorite gelateria is closed for the winter. Darn! I guess I'll cross that bridge when they reopen in the spring.

Myself I am on a 1800 calorie diet cause I am 316 lbs and only 28 years old. I have heart aches and pains cause I have a very large top. I would like to know what kind of diet are you on? I am doing a basic calorie based diet. If it fails I have WW as my back up. so what kind of exercise do you do?

Right now, I'm on a 1200-1300 calorie diet, with less that 30% from fat. I try to eat lots of fruits and veggies and lean meats. I definitely have not eliminated carbs, but I'm trying to really limit the high sugar ones. I make sure I drink at least 64 ozs. of water every day. I may have to up the calories a bit, though because I haven't lost any weight for several days. With all the exercise I'm doing, it could be muscle gain, too. I'm going to give it a little while though, I don't want to jump the gun.
I am going to the gym every day, although I allow for the fact that there will be days that I can't, like Christmas day, New Year's, or I just have something going on. I do 30 min. on the treadmill at 3.5 mph and 30 min. on the crosstrainer at 45 rpm. After that I do about 20 minutes of strength training, switching each day between arms, legs, and back. I try to do some type of ab work every day, but sometimes I run out of time. With all that, you would think the weight would just be melting off of me, but I do seem to be in a slump right now. However, I did lose another 1/2" from my hips without the weight loss which is what makes me think maybe I'm gaining muscle right now. I can definitely tell a difference in my thighs. I'm beginning to see muscle definition even through all the layers. My resting heart rate has dropped from 92 bpm to 80 bpm. I'm all for that! It is hard most days to get around and make myself go, but I'm really happy once I get there. Plus, I have to arrange daycare a week in advance in order to go. It really helps to have that time appointment for that hanging over my head.
That's about the gist of it. I am determined to do this the right way because dieting the wrong way and diet pills are what got me into this position in the first place. I have to make good lifestyle changes this time around.
