Hi everyone,
I have enjoyed reading this board that I just found today!
My name is Eileen and I am 25 years old. I'm a nursing student in a master's program to get my RN license. I live with my fiancee and 2 cute guinea pigs in the bay area of northern CA.
To make a long story short, I feel like I have had weight issues my whole life. Although now I am really overweight but 15 years ago when I thought I was fat, I actually really wasn't. Right now I weigh 215 pounds and I am 5'2" tall. The ideal weight for that height is about 100-120 pounds (I used to weigh 115!). If you want to know your ideal body weight or BMI, go here http://www.dietitian.com/ibw/ibw.html.
I want to lose weight to be healthy for myself & to be able to have children someday, to lower my cholesterol, to look awesome when I finally get married, and because I know I will be a role model for others when I am a nurse. How can I tell others that they need to exercise or lose weight when I don't? I do not want to to be a hypocrite.
So here are my goals for the next year (I hate calling them New Year's resolutions because I never keep them!!)
-Eating healthy and making it a life-long habit
-Sticking to an exercise program and making it fun, not something I hate to do
-Lose 100 pounds (or as much as is possible for me in a year)
I make a million excuses for not doing any of theses things. I know it is up to me to make a conscious decision and choose to make time and stop making excuses. I know how I can eat better, but it's actually putting it into action and doing it! Since I have no $$ to get a gym membership now, I want to start walking/jogging for exercise (hopefully with a friend or my fiancee).
Sorry this is so long!! Thank you if you took the time to read it!

Hello Eileen!
Good luck to you! I hope you really do it this time. I know we have it in us if we really wanna do it!
I am in a similar boat. I used to be fit and now am obese and want to get back to what I didn't appreciate! This time I truly feel that I am going to pull it off no matter how long it takes!
I will be joining the gym this year. Not during the NYR rush though because it's way too expensive. I am going to wait until they have the ladies join free deal or the $5 to enroll deal. Then I can pay $31 a month for not only the membership but 3 perks! LIke a personal trainer, body composition, and, I don't know if I'll take towel service or a guest card where I can bring a guest (hubby) twice a month. I figure I'll see if he'd like to, if not then towels for me! I've been there and loved it. But then I had another baby and I didn't want to pay the $250 to upgrade to compensate for babysitting. But now I am like, hubby can watch them, I'll get what I really want out of the membership! I know the kids love and miss the gym but it is more important, I figure, to give them the example of a healthy mom than pay to let them play.
Well, I do need to get to bed. Can't lose it if you don't rest well.

Welcome Eileen... Those are great goals for the next year. Why don't you print them out and keep them handy so you can glance at them every now and then for inspiration?
Keep us posted on your journey

Hi Eileen,
I am new here too, my name is Rebekah and I am 28 years old. I wanted to tell you about something that could help you in the exercise department that is free!!!! Its called Walk Away the Pounds, they are exercise DVD's that are super easy, I have ZERO coordination and balance problems from a birth defect, but I can still do them with very little modification on my own. I bought the 2 DVD set for $25 but they have been around for a while and I am sure you can get them for free at your library...then if you like them and want to buy them, its a great investment, and she uses light weights in the videos so if you wanted to do that part just use soup cans or water bottles until you buy some weights if you decide to. Good luck and I hope to get to know you better :)
