Hello everyone,
I am new to the board and also I have just started watching what I eat and I joined a wellness center to exercise. I have over 150 pounds to lose and I know it is going to be so tough. Right now, I am having a hard time not going to the fridge and piggin' out. I am a night eater and it's tough not giving in. Also, I was wondering if anyone has tried the Michael Thurman program.

I ordered it, and it just sits in my closet. It is a REALLY complicated program in my opinion. I think that with such strong cravings, it would be easier to sit yourself down and see what you can realistically do. It probably means starting out REALLY small. Maybe just cutting out soda, or whatever you feel like you can do. I dunno. The more I work on losing the weight, the more I realize for myself, if I go on diets, I can't control myself. If I am just telling myself to eat cautiously, healthy, and give my self little treats once in a while, its the best.....then I don't focus on food, and I don't beat myself up as much. Its been working so far. But this is what works for me. I also have close to 150 that I would like to lose! Good luck! I hope you have figure out something that will work wonderfully for you, and we are here to support you if you need it! Good luck!!!! You can do it!!!!

Welcome!

I'm not familiar with that program, but good luck with it! For times of day when you find yourself going to the fridge try filling the time with somthing else. I've found I go to the gym in the evenings, or spend the time working on puzzles. Anything that helps take your mind off of eating, I find I go to the fridge out of boardom. Also try chewing gum or sugar free candies as well. And you can always come check in with us for encouragement. I just started on South Beach at the begining of this week. I've been pretty good this week but not exercising as much as I should be. But I didn't cheat much so I feel like it's a good start.

Hugs,

Yeah, I am doing that now--cutting out excessive fats, sugars and starches. I still eat them but I am limiting myself and I am working out at the gym. Oh and I am journaling what I eat for the day which makes me measure out my portions. I will take a look at the Michael Thurman diet (after all I paid alot for it!) We'll see. It is hard not to get bummed when I think about how far I have to go........One day at a time, one pound at a time. Right? I try hard to recall one of my favorite sayings..."The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step."

If it helps, break it to mini-goals. There was a sentence that was repeated a lot here: It seems hard to lose 100 pounds, but I can lose 10 pounds 10 times. Don't get overwhelmed with the 100 lbs number, just take it 10 lbs at a time.

Hi there and welcome to the group.

My own advice for night eating which helped me especially this last week.

I scribbled down what I was going to have for my 3 meals and 2 snacks every day and went out to purchase more vegetables, fruit and leaner meat.

In the past I found that I ate more at night when I was troubled, perhaps you may be in the same position. I am free from those feelings that kept me 'pigging' out when I should be in bed with my husband. If you would like to email me, you could send me a list of what you are eating and perhaps we can figure out if you are eating enough.

Not eating enough of the right food is something that plagued me in the past as well.

I am not sure if all of this helps but the most important thing I would like you to take away from this post.

Is to not be discouraged. Sometimes the very things we are going through is part of a bigger plan. I appreciate your honesty. I know it was not easy to admit again speaking from my own experience.

One day at a time, you are on your way to losing your weight and getting healthier.

One day at a time.
