Starting My Life Over

Hey there I'm about to turn 20 and I hate my body! I've always been heavy, but just recently I really gave up on myself and put on about 30 pounds. I have a problem sticking to diets and working out. I go strong for about a week and then just give up. I'm hoping I can make it stick this time. Right now I'm weighing in at about 230. This is the heaviest I've ever been and I'm feeling it. My parents are somewhat encouraging, but neither of them are really over weight so they don't know what or how I'm feeling. Any good tips or tricks? I could really use the support!

Hey there and welcome to the board... If you can't stick to your diet for long it maybe because you're making too many changes at the same time. Try to take it one step at a time. Eliminate regular soda, down-size your take-out orders, reduce the number of take-outs, make it a point to eat a healthy breakfast, don't' skip meals, drink your water, go for a walk.. there are a lot of stuff to do, but don't try to be a hero and do it all at the same time. Take one change at a time and when you feel ready, make another change.

It is great that you're starting out that young. I was your age when I lost 45 pounds and I managed to keep them off for years (until I got pregnant, then kaboom). The younger you are, the easier it is.

The most important thing is to NEVER give up. EVER

I can relate to your comment about dieting. I dont think diets work, actually I know they dont!!

A lifestyle change is what it is all about. I had to learn about food, nutrition and what the junk I was stuffing myself with was actually doing to me. At some time, I felt like I was killing myself with the garbage I was putting into my body!

Dont be discouraged, the good news is that you have made a decision to change your life.

Take it one day at a time.

Start slow. Maybe just drinking 8 glasses of water and going for walk today after supper as your first goal.

Make realistic goals for yourself because you are worth. I write mine on the fridge or my bathroom mirror worked.

Maybe a trip to the library for some good books on weight loss. I have a Christian book that I used before to help me lose the first chunk of weight. You can do it. You can lose this weight. Remember your weight does not describe you. You are precious.

You are a young girl with a whole life ahead of you.Trials come...oh believe me...set backs too..........but dont ever give up. You are worth it.

Two quotes that have helped me....

Nothing tastes as good as being healthy feels!

I didn't put it on overnight and it's not gonna come off overnight!

I can feel your pain, I'm 20 years old turning 21 this year and for the past ten years of my life I have been battling this weight that seems to love my body for some reason. I tried to look to my parents for support to, but sometimes you need a friend who is going through the same situation as you. I'm weighing in at 268 right now, not my heaviest, but also not very healthy at the same time. Unfortunately for me all my friends are fit or at the correct weight, even though they call themselves fat. That just makes me even more depressed. So here I am looking for email or IM buddies who are going through the same problem as me. So maybe that's what you need for motivation... someone who is going through the same thing as you. Feel free to IM me or email me.
