I am finally realizing that i need to this and i cannot do it on my own! I knowI am fat , but never thought of myself as fat. weird , but i bet most of you know what i am talking about. We look in the mirror every day and see an overweight person, but not untill we see a picture of ourselves or someone else calls us fat we actually realize it. I am ready to loose weight. I know i need to be held acountable. my health depends on it. My children depend on it. I don't want to be the fat mommy any more. Any way Thanks for letting me vent. I know this is the right place for support. IAm 5'10 280lbs. I want to be 185. I am really good about exercising , but horrible at controlling my sugar cravings. Do you guys do weekly weigh ins? What helps you in your struggle?
Thanks Kira

Hi Kira and welcome to the board. This is a great place to be. Everyone does things a little bit differently but most do post a weekly weigh-in, sometimes you will even see a thread just for weigh-ins. Anyway, what works for me is journaling, journaling, journaling! Good luck and post often!

Welcome aboard!! Usually there is a thread for a weekly weigh-in. It is posted on Friday, but you can post your status on your usual weigh-in day. If you don't see a thread, please start one!!

I'm your opposite.. I can eat right, but very challenged when it comes to exercise. I have a terrible sweet tooth too. But it does get better with time. If you have to have something sweet, cut it in half, put it in a plate, and wrap/store the other half. Sit somewhere nice and enjoy it.

You can also try some tricks.. if you like creamy stuff, fix a FF yogurt-fruit smoothie with artificial sweetener.. if you're more into chocolate, try cocoa milk w/ artificial sweetener.

What helps in the struggle? Reading the board, posting, reading, and more posting.. it helps to know there are other people who are going through this.. people who have tricks and tips.. and coming here on a daily bases make me focused on my goal instead of shoving it in the back of my mind..

Welcome to the boards! I have to admit, I've always seen myself as fat, but not as big as I really was. One of my (many) wake up calls was REALLY seeing my shadow after a shower. I thought, what is that? My stomach - much bigger than I was picturing in my mind. One thing that keeps me focused is doing a daily food journal. My meals have always been pretty healthy, it was all the snacking and mindless munching that was killing me. Plus, not enough exercise. Accountability helps, too. The ladies here are very supportive. I've got an email weigh in going with some family/friends, plus I give my "Friday Report" to my DH and have him browse through my journal. So far, so good. I'm actually a little farther along than I thought I would be at this point, so I'm very happy. I also give myself a guilt free meal occasionally (dinner with friends last night). I write down what I eat, but don't worry about the cals. Good luck on your journey!

Welcome! I'm not actively trying to lose weight, because I'm 5 months pregnant, but I wanted to offer some support. I joined this board around April of last year, and I was 5'10" and 275lbs, my highest weight EVER. I lost almost 40 lbs by July by sticking to a very healthy, low calorie diet. If you have a big problem with sugar, it may be best to eliminate added sugars for a few days and see if the cravings get under control. Once you get them under control, I would add portion controlled snacks so that you don't feel deprived. I had chocolate or some kind of "junk" food nearly every day, becuase I planned for it. For a lot of people, knowing that you CAN have whatever junk you crave makes you crave it less and makes it easier to control. I know I only tend to have out of control cravings when I decide "Okay, I cannot have this and this and this". Then I just have to have those things. Good luck!
