My name is Angela and I am 29 years old, and have 95-100 lbs to lose. The exercise thing isn't that hard for me to get motivated to do because I enjoy it, however I have asthma so it is hard for me to actually get physical sometimes. My biggest problem is the eating, I have not got the willpower to maintain a diet. I have been trying to cut my calories and fat because that is how I lost weight before my son was born (I lost just til I got pregnant so not more than 20 lbs) but right now I am just starving. I just got over being sick since thanksgiving in which I took steroids for 2 weeks of the time and well if any of you have taken steroids before, they make you extremely hungry. Myself all I wanted was potatoes. That is a weakness for me, I love fried potatoes (fast food or home made). I have been doing okay though, I haven't had any, but right this second I want some fries bad. I gained 15 more lbs while on the medications, but now that I have my breathing under control, and I can't keep up with my 19 month old son still, I realized last week I had to do something or I might not see my youngest grow up. My breathing is getting worse as the weight gets worse, but I am just can't seem to get the willpower to keep it up. I have read a few posts, and I see I am not alone. The scales don't move and I get discouraged.
Anyways, I hope maybe you all can relate some to me, and I can be welcomed here. I am married with 3 kids (12, 5, 19 months).

Well, I can relate to the controlling the calories, and feeling like you're starving most of the day. I have found that the more water you drink, and jello that you eat the less the hunger pains are. As far as the potato thing goes. Ore Ida makes the Fast Food Fries, and they really are good baked. They tast really good, and are only 160 calories for a 3 oz serving, if you bake them. Another thing that I've found with those, is that my kids love them, and can't really tell them apart from Burgerking or Hardees fries. Help it helps, a scale is handy for measuring the 3 ounces, but the bag says that approx.27 equals one serving. Good Luck.

Hello Angela.. I noticed that eating protein at every meal reduces the hungry feeling.. omelet for breakfast, turkey breast for lunch... I basically have protein at each meal. Also drinking lots of water helps..

And I noticed that I'm not as hungry as I used to be when I first started.. it could be that my stomach is shrinking? I think I'm getting used to smaller portions.

I think it's important to keep on hand some healthy snack choices that you like.. yogurt, fruit, 94% popcorn, etc.. so you can use them to avoid a binge session. I often go over my calorie range for the day, but I know that on a long run this is better than feeling deprived then binging like crazy.

Welcome aboard!

Hi Angela,

I too find it extremely difficult to pass up on the good stuff, for me it is sweets. Have you tried the new pringle's potato chips, they are totally FAT FREE. One serving is 15 chips, at 70 calories, and NO FAT. I have these sometimes when I am really craving something salty.
You also could try and just have a small baked potato. That is a great snack, low fat, only 100 calories, and the carb will give you energy to keep up with the kids.I have also tried to make oven fries, just wash your potato, cut into long strips, bake on parchment paper, so it doesn't stick for about 45 min. Add a bit of salt, delicious!

I also have sugar free jello or pudding with cool whip free when I really want something sweet. The chocolate pudding is too die for when you get that chocolate craving so bad !!!! So far, I have lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks, and I don't feel deprived, or hungry.

Also eats some extra veggies with low fat ranch dressing for snacks, this will help fill you up, but without the fat and calories.

Good Luck

Thank you all for welcoming me. I guess my biggest problem is I am a very picky eater, but i have been doing good, eat subway instead of McD's when I need something quick, I don't make my kids do that, I ate subway while they ate McD's the other night. They eat healthy on their own for the most part so I won't take that away from them. I don't know where they get their eating habits from, not from their parents for sure...LOL. I did break and have some fries last night, but I didn't get the Supersize like I normally would and I felt much better after eating them. Sometimes I just gotta have salt and fries, and last night was one. I have done better because while I was on all the meds I had to have fries every night and I ate like 10 times a day because I was starving. I hate taking steroids for that reason. I have finally gotten it all out of my system and am back down to eating normal meals so hopefully it will come off with the exercise and cutting the fried stuff back out and the sweets. I had thought of the fat free pudding for my sweet fixes when PMSing, and I do like oven fries. I don't care for chips though so if I eat potatoes it will have to be mashed or baked. Hey the working out is going okay though, I have walked 45 min for the past 2 mornings, and 30 min monday morn. It helps to have someone go with you, cuz I could have kept walking since I had someone to talk to, unfortunately the Y has a 45 min limit on their treadmills...LOL I am waiting on a call from the trainer there to set up an appt to start a weight training program, didn't want to jump into it all at once so for now I am happy to just walk. I am just proud to be able to breathe enough to do that. Okay I have rambled on enough, thanks again for welcoming me.

It sounds like you are making good progress. All the little things add up quickly. BTW, I found a way around the limitations the gyms put on their cardio equipment. Mine limits to 30 mins., so I do 30 on the treadmill and 30 on the crosstrainer. When I first started and wasn't up to the crosstrainer yet, I would do 30 on the treadmill, go lift weights for a little while, then come back and do 30 more. What can they say if no one else came and got on it while I was gone? Plus I've noticed that as long as there are other available treadmills, they will let people stay on as long as they want.

You are on the right track, just keep with it!
