Hi my name is Alyce and I am 38 and Im only 5 foot tall and I need to lose 200lbs which saying that sure scares me. I decided when my youngest son told me that he wished he could hug me with his arms around me that it was time to lose weight and get healthy so I can be around for him as he grows up. I dont have any support around me so I am looking for support in this new adventure I am taking for a healthier life style.

I know where you are coming from, my 5 yr old has bluntly told me I am fat. That one HURT bad, I know she didn't mean it harshly but I figured for a child to say that, then it must be the truth, so I had to open my eyes and see myself for what I have become, an unhealthy out of shape mom who struggled to just get through every day. I wish you all the luck in the world. Support is a big part of weight loss and I am lacking in that department as well, my family just doesn't understand how bad I need their support in this. We can do this if we set our minds to it.

Good Luck to Ya!!

Welcome, Alyce! This is the place to be for support and ideas. Having a place to go when you need advice or a pat on the back for success is really important. We all do it our own way, but the bottom line is we are all here to lose. Sounds funny doesn't it? Good luck on your journey!

Hi Alyce,
We have a lot in common. I am also vertically challenged (LOL) at 5 feet tall, I have about 160 pounds to lose and I am brand new to the board. I just completed my first week of my new healthier lifestyle (the word DIET just leaves a bad taste in my mouth!) and I must say I didn't do too badly. It is hard to go it alone. I think we can both find some support here. Best of luck to you and let me know how you are doing.

Hi Alyce!

Sounds like you're determined! I'll be glad to offer whatever support I can.

I'm new to the board myself (first time here actually) and I have to lose 108 lbs. to reach my goal weight. I'm 5'2".

I've been dieting for about three weeks and I've lost ten pounds so far. I'm thinking of breaking it up into small increments (like convincing myself I only need to lose 10 lbs.) so it doesn't seem so daunting.

I guess I'll take it one day at a time.

I know just how you feel,my small nieces ages 5 and 7 have said to me over the past year oh Aunt Penny your belly is so fat or you look like santa Aunt Penny,Kids say what they see and you can't be mad cause most of the time for me at least it was true,I also this year really I started 2 days after Thanksgiving decided this is it I need to get into some sort of shape. So I started then and there,my family all tried to get me to wait til after all the Holidays, but I knew if I'd waited I be even bigger so with nothing to lose but fat I began my new life style.EATING RIGHT!!I really need to lose about 85 pds. but I can't think of it like that so I'm taking it 20 pds at a time.I weigh in on Mon. or Tues.and I don't peek at the scales til then,it'll drive you crazy if you get on every day cause our bodies hold water one day and less the next.I'm trying to eat oatmeal or a piece of toast for breakfast"not much on breakfast"then I'll eat a weight watchers tv dinner or lean cuizine,or a bowl of homemade or canned soup,or a small salad for lunch. And then whatever I cook for supper for my husband I limit myself to small servings.I have found that I sometimes need to measure things, like a cup of this or that. After about 2 weeks your stomach does get adjusted to the smaller portions, but I'm not gonna lie I felt hungry many times and had to drink a lot of diet sodas or water when the cravings for food arose.I have lost almost 30 pds so far it kinda goes up a pd or two or down a pd or two every week, but I'm not giving up.I know I need to exercise to get this thing started up again.I am gonna try dancing every nite this week while my husband is on the computer or something.I know it does sound overwhelming but please don't try to set too high of a weight loss number for youself,I use to weigh 128 when I was in my 20's but now that I'm 46 I would just like to be able to be 150 again.Thats my Goal and with the good Lords help, support from my husband and new friends from the message boards I know I can make it happen this year and you can too.If you want it bad enough,if you've took a good look and said to yourself "I'm gonna do this for me this time, and no one or nothing is gonna stand in my way"then you've got this thing half over.I hope and pray that you and all of us who are battling with our weight this year will finally win no matter how long it takes,my Dad used to say to me when I was a large teen and wanted to lose 50 pds like overnite"it took you a long time to put it on it's gonna take a little while to take it off so don't be so hard on yourself OK". He was right. Now I get it.

Hi Penny, that coulda been me writing the post. I lost 31 pounds and I'm stuck and need exercise to keep myself going back again. I eat almost the same as you do. I also eat smaller portions of whatever I cook for hubby. The only difference is that I started a couple of months ahead of you. Anyways, just wanted to say hi.
