I am just curious, how long has it taken you all to lose say 10-20 lbs?

I am one that if I lose slowly I get discouraged. For instance i just started Monday but if I don't see results when I weigh in I am going to get discouraged.

I am exercising (walking 45 min on treadmill) and watching what I eat, trying not to eat so much fast food, or if I do pick better foods. I think I am doing good on my eating. How do you figure how many calories you should eat though? Ivillage says 2331 so I am trying to eat less than 1800 calories and exercise. Hoping to lose a pound a week at least and then drop it when I get to where I am not starving all the time.

Anyways, it appears I have lost 1.5 lbs already, probably just water weight but that is something. I have this neurosis of weighing myself all the time, and I REALLY need to get out of it. Will let you all know Monday if I have lost more.

It took me three weeks to lose ten pounds.

I can't excercise at present (due to a knee injury).

I have a rather slow metabolism but lately I've been trying to drink lots of water(some people say it helps).

Angela, to be honest, I don't always exercise when I'm losing weight, so don't worry too much about it. I know it's the best thing to do to get healthier, but for me it's hard enough finding the motivation to stick with eating healthier let alone trying to find the motivation to also exercise regularly. Usually that comes later in my program (about 2-3 months in, usually). I don't find that it significantly impacts my weight loss, maybe 1/2 lb a week, if that. I mean, if you exercise vigorously for 30 minutes a day 7 days a week, that still only 1/2 lb a week...which is great, but not enough to get upset about if you can't exercise. But, I do get more walking in my day than most people do, so I think I get a decent amount of exercise from that. It is important to add strength training and resistance exercises as the weight comes off, so you can continue losing inches even when the scale doesn't move, but, like I said, it usually takes me 2 or 3 months of eating right to find the motivation to exercise. I think it sounds like you are doing great, and you are right about the cake and chips...you have to allow yourself to have them, or they become "forbidden" and then you will end up eating a bunch of junk in place of them and still eating them in the end, too. Keep up the good work, and don't worry about exercising when you are sick. I have a nasty cold right now, and it takes a ton out of you. I think you burn extra calories just being sick anyway!
