My name is Jennifer. I am 20 years old. I am getting married next summer. I am trying to lose weight before then. When I first started dating my Fiance three years ago, I weighed 175. Back then, I thought I was fat. Now, I look back and WISH I could be that weight again..only this time, I want to weigh less. I am going for 145 pounds. My current weight is 255. I am 5'9" So, 110 pounds to go. I guess I feel more pressure to lose weight now because my sister-in-law is a dance teacher, my cousin is a model (who now lives in new york) and my mom has recently started going to curves. I am looking to lose weight on my own though. I was wondering if anyone here was similar to me. Also, does anyone have any encouragement or advice?

Welcome. I'm 5'3" 200lbs. I'm 24 years old, have 3 kids, and one ex husband. I met my ex husband in 1998 when I only weighed 126lbs, and was a size 2. Since then I've had 2 kids with him, and went through a very controlling and abusive relationship with him, and we seperated when I was @175lbs. I met my current boyfriend who is a sweetheart had a baby with him, and went up to 210lbs. Most of my family is classified as obese. I decided to start loosing weight about 2 weeks ago, and have lost 10 lbs so far. I'm not exactly like you by any means, but I am doing the weightloss thing just like you, so I'll share what is working for me. I count calories, you can usually get the recommended calorie intake for yourself from entering in a few things, or by talking to your doctor. Keep a journal, and write down your food intake for the day, and the amount of calories for everything. Write down your daily activity. Try to stay within the recommended calories, and drink a lot of water, and you'll start to see the lbs melt away. Good luck, and welcome to the board...

i remember thinking the same thing when i was about 185 lbs.. i thought, 'man if i ever weigh 300 lbs i'd just die.. and here i am...over 300 lbs..'
heck i'd love to be 200 lbs again..
the best thing i can tell you is to make mini goals and take it 1 day at a time.
good luck

I just wanted to say that your story sounds so familiar...except the cousin being a model part :). I am 5'10 and in high school I got down to 185. I thought I was fat then, too. Then I packed on the weight, got up to 275 and looked back and realized I should have appreciated 185. It's great that you have a goal picked out and a set date for it. That's what helped me lose weight the first time. I had to be a maid of honor in 2 weddings, and I gave myself a year to lose 70 lbs. Well, I lost 50 of it, but then started dating my now fiance and after the weddings packed the weight back on and then 5 lbs. I'm 6 months pregnant now, so not working on losing, but still focusing on eating healthy. I've never followed a "program" for weight loss. I keep a food journal and count calories. I also aim to get high quality calories for the most part. That means instead of eating 5 saltines I'll eat 1/2 C of corn for the same amount of calories and much more nutrition. Don't pick a diet plan you can't stick with forever and that doesn't work with your life. Me, I know I'm going to be eating out at a restaurant at least once a week and/or eating at fast food places sometimes. I just found the nutrition info for the fast food places and made the best choices I could and at restaurants tried to choose healthily but didn't completely restrict myself.
Just wanted to say welcome and that it's hard, but you can do it. Don't give up if you have slip ups along the way. It's going to happen, that's life. Journal and measure your food to keep yourself accountable. And, don't set unrealistic goals. While it might be nice to be 145, is that reasonable? If you have a large frame, you might find that 155 or 160 is a good weight and a good size. You might want to set a goal of 2 lbs a week for 26 of the weeks and only 1 for the other 26, which would be about 78 or 80 lbs. That way you have a very healthy significant weight loss, but don't get discouraged when the scale doesn't move fast enough. Good luck!

Hey, welcome to the board! Your story sounds very familiar to me.
I'm 25 and 5'3", about four years ago, I was 160 and thought I was so fat. Then I went back to school and started working two jobs to support myself. I was trapped behind a desk nearly 18 hours a day between class and school and my living situation (evil roommates) sucked so I ate out for basically every meal. I would eat whatever would deliver, which meant tons of greasy unhealthy food. Three years later I was in the 230s. I've been right around that weight for the last year and just miserable. I used to be a very athletic person (I played softball and tennis and danced) and now I'm so sedentary. Finally I decided to make a fresh start with the new year. Since 1/1 I've lost 12 pounds and 12.5 inches. I'm REALLY motivated about my new routine and I'm not having a hard time following it at all. Right now I'm just aiming for a 50lb loss (I'm hoping to reach that by lat summer/early fall) and then I will reevaluate and set a final goal. Ultimately I'd like to be 130-140, but really, I'd be thrilled to be back at 160.
This is what I have been doing: since 1/1 I've been really aware of my eating. I'm following WW but not officially - I don't go to meetings or anything, I just have some of their books which I highly recommend. You can get the start up kit relatively cheap from ebay or something and there is a WW board on ivillage that is full of people who are doing it unofficially and are very willing to help you figure out questions about the program for free. Just reading through the WW material
I'm right there with you, sister, except the stress from doing my own wedding actually led me to put on more weight. I'm 25, 5'4, and 300 lb. The majority of my family is short but appropriately sized, whereas I am not. Maybe we can be e-mail buddies!
Good luck and smooth sailing!

I read you post, and I too am 5'3" and started at 210.
Congrats on getting down to 200! I know you'll make it to 120!
Thank you for congratulating me, but I have been struggling the past couple of days, today was my weigh in, and I gained back 2 of the 10 that I had lost. I'm anemic, and have been so tired lately, that I don't have the energy for anything. I bought some Vitamin B-6 because I was told that that would help me get my iron levels up, I don't know if it's true, but I told my doc that I didn't want to take straight iron, and she recommended that instead. I'm not giving up though. I am virtually never hungry anymore, and I think that may be the reason that I might of gained the 2 lbs back, because I'm not getting the recommended calories everyday, and my body may have started to store a little of what I did eat. I'm going to start to really focus on it today though, because I don't want to loose this battle of the buldge, and be this way or even heavier for the rest of my life.

I've been eating weight watchers and lean cuizines tv dinners or a bowl of soup for lunch, and then whatever I cook for my husband I eat a plate and I do measure the portions out for supper. Not much on breakfast, but if I do eat it I'll have an instant oatmeal or a small bowl of crackeling oatmeal cereal, you know that cereal stuff is great for fiber.I do try to drink a lot of water or crystal lite tea or lemonaide.I just hope whatever diet you follow try to be healthy about it and don't starve yourself to the point that you get weak and sick.Remember it took a long time for your weight to get this high so PLEASE take a little time to get it off.Praying for you in 2006,Penny
