A newbie here....

Hello everyone. I want to tell you a bit about myself so you people know me a bit.
My name is Amy. I am married and have three young girls. You can see my membername, Twosixfive (that's my current weight). I have been on Weight Watchers since November 2005. I have lost 5lbs and gained it back then lost 10 lbs now so far. I am not entirely happy with Weight Watchers. Too much choices and very tempting to eat regular food and then overeat those regular foods. I am tired of going to meetings every week. I really want to lose about 125 to 135lbs more. I have been thinking about how Weight Watchers have not helped me so far. I am deaf and of course, there's an interpreter at every meeting that I have gone to. But, I realized that, having a diet buddy is very important. I dont have a buddy that can support and share with me through our weight loss goals/plans. Other reasons, I am a picky eater, need to have lots of kid friendly meals(hard to do this with WEight Watchers' cookbooks since my kids are also picky eaters after me), and tired of count flex points. I have tried looking at other websites to see which diet plans will work for me, I have not seen anything yet. I am asking you guys please help me. I also would like to know if this board is really great at being supportive of others at trying to lose weight. Thank you so much!

I haven't been here but a couple weeks myself, so all I can really tell you is good luck to you. It really is hard to eat diet foods around kids, I have 2 myself and they like healthy foods but I am very picky as well. I do not like what I deem as rabbit food and we eat out a bit as I am in school and with 3 kids, well I forget about dinner sometimes til it is too late to cook or I am just to tired to cook. All I am doing is counting my fat and trying to keep it below 30% so it is easier for me. I have only lost 4 lbs so far though in 2 weeks and I lost that the first week, second week got sick and couldn't exercise. That has been my key there, exercise.
Anyways, I am rambling so I will end by saying again, GOOD LUCK to ya.

I haven't been here that long either, but I do find it helpful. I also have 3 kids, 2 boys, and a girl. And like you I am a picky eater, along with my oldest son. The only thing that has really worked for me, is counting calories. I eat what I want when I want, and just don't eat anything after I hit my 1470 calorie limit. You can get your recommended calorie intake from fitness calculators all over the web. I wish you the best of luck, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Hi there! I just started coming to this board as well...Monday in fact. I tried weight watchers and felt similar to you. It was way to easy to overeat, and I hated group meetings, because I was a few years younger then so they didn't pretain to me. I need to have some variety but have it be a limited variety. I am also a VERY pickey eater (no seafood, pork, apples, lunchmeat) you get the idea! I started the LA Weight Loss center program on monday, and began the actual diet on tuesday, and as of last night when I went back in I had lost two pounds! (yeah). I found another board that is related to each diet that is out there, even just counting calories, so you might want to look around on those and see what type of information you can find. Don't get discouraged because you will find something that works for you! Best of luck!

the hardest part about trying to lose weight trying to figure out what plan works best for you (& your family).... i'm still trying to figure that one out..
i'm not sure if you've looked on the diet/fitness board but they give a good description of the various plans out there.

Hi, my name is Kelly. I am also new here (first time today). I do not have any children (yet) but I do run a childcare all day so I am around kids food and children all day. Not exactly the ideal environment to diet at all!
Anyhow, I think I have tried every fad diet out there as well as Weight Watchers. I think the only thing I learned there is that I can't sit through a meeting. I have gained and lost weight several times, and have now decided this is going to be it. After a bout with an illness that kept me in bed and inactive for the better part of the last three years, my weight went all the way up to 328.
As of January 9th, I started using Richard Simmons Food Mover System. I went with his program because he teaches portion control (something I REALLY needed, even though I thought I had it down) and allows you to eat just about anything in the right amounts. The little Food Mover keeps track of what I am eating for me and when all of the windows are closed, I am done for the day. I am the kind of person who needs to see things in front of me and I hate keeping a food diary so this was a great alternative for me.
Everything is broken down by food group and the number of servings you need per day in your chosen calories. I have lost 28 lbs as of this morning (wa-hoo!). My energy is through the roof and now that I am ending my fifth week, I am actually enjoying it -- closing the little windows and knowing when I weigh myself in the morning it will be down even just a little.
I hope this helps.

Best wishes and good luck!
Kelly

Welcome and good luck! This board is definitely very supportive of anyone trying to lose weight. I've been visiting it for about a year now. I took off about 35-40 lbs last year, but I'm now 6 months pregnant, so not actively trying to lose. It's so hard trying to find the motivation 24/7 to stick with a diet plan and lose weight. But, and I tell you this from experience, you have to find something that you can do and stick with doing even AFTER you are done losing weight. It sounds like you are struggling with portion control and regulating yourself, and it's something that we have all dealt with at some point in time--how do you think we got to where we are? It's something that you are going to have to make yourself do and learn to do to make any diet/weight loss permanent, though. I think Weight Watcher's is a good plan to follow because it teaches you those things and doesn't force you to make unrealistic changes that are too hard to stick with in the long run. I also think that you can make meals that you and your family will enjoy. You can make oven baked chicken tenders and a healthy veggie for a side, and also add oven fries or somethign like that for the kids to enjoy. My best pieces of advice for you are 1) Don't set unrealistic goals, such as 100 lbs in 3 months or something like that. 2) Measure, measure, measure until you learn to eyeball portions. Portion control is essential when you are forced to be around "real foods" and when you don't want to regain. 3) Don't think of any food as a reward or as forbidden. Thinking of something in that way only makes you want it more. If you want a piece of chocolate or some potato chips, work it into your plan, but in controlled portions, and don't think of it as cheating. 4) If you have one slip up at one meal, don't let it derail your entire day or week. An extra 5 or 10 points at 1 meal is not much in the grand scheme of things, but let it derail you and it becomes an extra 50-100 points over the course of the week and that's an extra pound or 2. Good luck and feel free to come to us with any of your struggles or if you need help with recipes or anything.

Welcome aboard Amy. Although WW is a very popular program and a lot of people achieve great results with it, it's not for everyone. If it doesn't work for you, ditch it and find another program that does. Everybody is different and depending on your eating style, schedule, family, etc, you'll have to find something that works for you. I for example researched several plans and decided that
