I am 22 years old and am currently living in Vancouver on a work visa. I am from the UK. I have been trying to lose weight for months now and it is proving to be such a battle. I am always up and down with my weight. I dont look fat but i know how good i look when im two stone lighter!

I went on the south beach diet in fact i have done every diet possible. After the phase one i lost 8 pounds which was great. Then i came to vancouver and my boyfriend and i ate out alot whilst we were trying to find accommodation. And i have probably put on the weight i lost.

i do exercise five days a week either swimming, gym ,walking and over the past few weeks i have just been eating vegetables, fruit, and meat and drinking lots of water!

What am i doing wrong, i also write down what i eat every day too.

Can anyone suggest some diets or any things that have worked for them please?!!

Thank you

Well, the thing that's worked best for me is portion control and counting my calories. Reducing calories in vs. calories out is the only true way to lose weight. If you journal, try using an online tracker such as www.fitday.com where you input what you are eating, in what amounts, and it tells you how many calories you've had for the day and things like that. If you already eat fairly healthy, it may be a simple thing of watching your portions and watching for added sugars and fats. Steamed veggies may seem healthy, but at a lot of restaurants, they also have added fats such as butter or oil, so you still get a ton of calories. Or, adding a tablespoon of butter or oil to your pan when you are cooking may not seem like much, and it's really not even enough to coat a pan, but it's still adding about 120 calories. Good luck with your weight loss goals and welcome to the board.

I also recommend fitday.com. Enter the food in your journal and see how many calories you've had for the past week or so. It might be that you're under-estimating the food portions and your total calorie count is higher than you think. It also may be that you're not eating enough and your body is switching to starvation mood and hanging on to the weight.

You're also exercising 5 times a week, so you may be losing fat and gaining muscle weight. Do you feel any changes in your size? Clothes feeling looser, rings falling, etc?

I know how frustrating this is, but don't worry, you'll overcome this and start losing.
