July 2005 my fiance and I went to Las Vegas for vacation. That is actually where he proposed. We did a lot of walking. It was fine for him but it was really rough on me. I could not keep up with him. I couldn't walk very far with out getting winded or a leg cramp. We drove all the way out to the Grand Canyon. I wanted so badly to hike around with him and take in the view. I did not get very far when I had to stop. It was not bad getting down to where I was. I just knew that it would be difficult and embarrassing to get myself back up to the car. I felt like we both missed out on so much of our vacation because of me.

We are going again to Las Vegas this July. This time to get married. We will be staying for a week again. I am sure we will be doing a lot of walking. I want to not only be able to keep up with him this time but also be able to do things that I just could not handle last time.

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to increase my stamina between now and July? As much as I can anyway. I really don't want to miss out or feel like a burden on this trip.

Do you have an elliptical machine, or a membership to a gym? It is the best exercise in my opinion for those who have problems with leg pain and cramping, it was the best purchase that I ever made, and they run around $200. It's designed to be easy on the joints. It's amost like a stand up bike but different. That and swimming is what I would recommend, and if you're trying to loose weight too with trying to increase your stamina, drink lots of water, and try a slightly reduced calorie diet. I think that the elliptical would be your best option.

Hi Amy,

Saw your post on another board also.

Starting a daily cardio routine will probably help increase your endurance tremendously ~ walking or biking or swimming or dancing ~ anything that raises your heart rate.

When I started my journey to health & wellness (January 2002) I couldn't even walk up a flight of stairs without getting winded - now there are no limits on my endurance.

I suggest that you start some sort of exercise. Walking is great since you'll be doing a lot of walking in Las Vegas. Cycling is also my favorite. I started with barely able to go on for 10 minutes, and now I can go on for 30 minutes at 19 MPH. Start slowly and don't overload yourself
