My advice to you is to start out slow. With things like grab a water instead of a soda, or a salad instead of a hamburger. Start out slow at the gym also. Tell yourself once a week, or twice a week. Ask a family member to give you a little tough love, and lay it out as it is. Just think of all the progress you could make if you started now, and told yourself "I'll do it for 4 weeks, and see what happens"! You CAN do it! Good luck!

there's not going to be a quick fix to getting you back to a healthy weight. It's going to take hard work and dedication.
If you have a desk job, keep a bottle of water at your desk and drink some all day long.
Stay away from fad diets/ medications- they might produce quick results, but what happens when you stop the diet or quit the pills? you haven't been trained on how to eat/move in a heathly way and you end up gaining.

getting started going to the gym- thinking your gonna just walk in and work out every day 1-1.5 hrs a day if you've been fairly sedentary for awhile- is of course unrealistic. try going a few times a week and plan on 10-15 mins at a time.. if you can do more.. GREAT.. if not you accomplished what you were trying to do... so GREAT!

you said you were in a new city- check online and see what there is to do in your new place- now that it's getting warmer plan a couple of outings- alone or with friends/family something you can do at your pace.. maybe walk around with your camera and do the "touristy" thing. Check out the zoo/ art museum- whatever interests you as long as you move some and have the ability to rest a little if it gets too hard for you. park further away from the door when you go places so you have further to walk to get there.

celebrate small victories- you drank only water today.. you dropped 5 lbs.. you were able to work out more today than yesterday.... you ate all your veggies today.

be honest with yourself. why do you want to lose weight (real reasons not fluff) are you sticking to your plan, are you trying as hard as you can (without hurting yourself), what if anything could you do better.

stay out of or at least limit pity parties... I'm too fat to do anything, people are judging me, I can't stick to any of my plans, etc. You're not convincing me that you can't do it, you're convincing you that you can't do it. change the way you think about it. I may be fat, but at least I'm trying. people can judge me but I'm going to prove them wrong. I fell off track today but I'm starting over and rededicating myself to my plan right now. A postive frame of mind will get you further than a negative one.

I believe that everyone here can lose they weight they need to lose... you & me included! but I think it's also important to love yourself now so that you aren't waiting until you've lost 50 lbs to start living. Loving yourself now will help motivate you to stick to your guns when it's hardest.
good luck and I look forward to reading about all of your success!

I just want to add a couple of things.. journaling is a great tool to see where you're at and make a commitment to change a few things. If you're being honest, you will not like what you see. The good news is, you don't need to change everything at the same time and have a perfect journal. Start with a couple of things that you can change and once you feel ready, have another look at the journal and change a few more things, and so on.

Another thing is to expect set backs. We're human, not machines, so there will be slip ups. The best thing you can do is get back on track right away. Don't wait for next Monday, or wait for tomorrow. Just pick up where you left and continue from there.

Good luck on your journey and welcome to the board
