Hi all,
I am new to the board and looking for advice on a few ?'s.
I started this adventure late in Jan and am now down 22 lbs but seem to be at a stand still the last week or so. My question is... how many cals, fat grams and carbs should you have in a day to lose weight. I have not really watched my food intake yet, just cut out pop and junk food.
So far alls I have done is walking 5x a week - 1 1/4 mile in 20 min. Should I be doing other excercise as well? I am trying to run some of that walk but I am still at 265 and its a little tough on my body yet.
I also have another ? for those over 250, do you find that not all scales read you right?? My scale doesnt always say I have lost anything but then I will go my inlaws and have lost a couple of lbs but my husband weighs exactly what he weighs on ours at 180???
Is it just me or is that weird?!?

Thanks :)

I've always had success by eating 1,200-1,500 calories per day and 30 grams of fat or less. I don't count carbohydrates.

I started the Slim Dast plan on 1/1/06 and have had great success. I use the the Slim Fast plan in conjunction with the calorie counting. I work out 90 minutes each day doing cardio AND weights. I drink at least 64 ounces of water each day.

Keeping a food journal is the ONLY way I can lose weight. It makes me accountable for EVERYTHING I put in my mouth.

as for the scale issue..
for me i don't use any "home" scales, i don't even own one.
i weigh in at work.. they have a "doctors" style scale in the ladies room, that goes up to 400 lbs so i use that.

and for calories fat etc..
here is an easy link to use

It looks like you're doing a lot of positive changes already.. congratulations to that! Cutting out pop & junk and committing to exercise are HUGE steps.

I count calories myself I'm supposed to be between 1200-1500 calories, but lately I've been overdoing it. I try to keep my fat to a maximum 30% of the calories (that's about 40-50 grams of fat). I use fitday.com to track what I eat and I found this very helpful.

As for the scales, I
