Hi All,
I am Heather from Iowa, 32 and I have about 105lbs to lose.
I started this journey in late Jan at 287, my heaviest EVER and am now at 265. I joined this group because although my husband is doing this with me, he now only has 9lbs to lose and just doesn’t have the same understanding that I am sure all of you do about how hard this is.
I was never heavy growing and NO ONE in my family is, but I did start to pack on some lbs in high school just because I got depressed and took it out on food. I took control of it though and lost 60lbs in a summer. I was always very active in all sports and kept that up even after high school with running daily.
Then I got pregnant! I was alone and 21...so I took it out on food and packed on 80lbs that never went away. I maintained that gain for a couple of years but still had depression problems and after awhile packed on 20lbs here and there and soon I was 240.
I met and married my husband at this weight and we had a little girl together. While I was pregnant with her I only gained 8 lbs but we found out that not only did she have Spina Bifida (her lower spine was on the outside)but we also found out that I had a rather fast growing Cervical Cancer because I was pregnant!
So, between my daughters sugarys, mine and chemo and radiation...you would think that I would lose weight..NOPE not me, again I took it out on food and over the next 4 years packed on almost another 50lbs.
What got me to turn a corner was a scare I had in Jan, the Dr found a lump in my left breast at one of my cancer checks and I had to have a mammogram. It turned out to be just hormonal problems since I am in menopause(at 32!)but it was enough to scare me! I figure if I continue at this rate there is NO way that I will make it to see my grand kids, I already have the odds against me since I took chemo at a young age and being in menopause young can cause problems as I get older...so why add to what my future problems might be ya know!
Anyway, I am doing this for my health and would love to have the support of all of you, knowing that you have the same struggles and can relate to this. I already posted a question on how many cals, fat and carbs you should have a day and I am looking though the post trying to answer any ?'s I can for you also.
