No weight loss?

Ok my main short term goal was to increase my stamina. I want to have as much fun as I can in Vegas in July. I missed out on so much last year. I have been walking 3 times a week. And I increased my water intake. Those 2 things did wonders for my stamina! I said in a past post that I kept up with Ethan for 2 hours straight on Friday.

I am really happy about that but I am not losing any weight. I bounce around in the same 10 pounds. My weight goes back and forth between 250 - 260 pounds. Why am I not losing any weight? What can I do to change that?

Hi,

I was having the same problem, well, sort of. I was still losing, just a few pounds a week when I was walking EVERYDAY, for 45 min. Ever since I cut back on my walking to only 3-4 times a week, I have been losing MORE weight.

I think what was happening with me, was I was burning off TOO many calories, also by walking EVERYDAY I was turning fat into muscle, and we all know muscle weighs more than fat, maybe this is what is happening for you also?

I have been only eating 12-1300 calories a day, and by walking everyday I was burning off 300 cal x 7 each week, that was like taking away more than one days worth of cal, so it starts to shut your metabolism down.

I've been losing 3-5 lbs now for the past 3 weeks. Sometimes you can be doing everything right, only to find it really isn't?

Good luck,

Holly

hmmm .. holly is right.. muscle weighs more than fat. do your clothes fit any differently, have you tried measuring yourself to see if you've lost inches. If either of those things are true you've gained muscle mass.. which burnes more calories and will help you to continue to shrink... not to mention give you that stamina you want!

What about monitoring what you eat- have you tried going to a place like fitday and putting in what you've eaten to break down your caloric intake and make sure you're not eating too much fat/carbs/whatever?

I know it sucks that you have been working so hard and the numbers haven't started to drop, but feeling great is quite an accomplishment!! I would say if you're doing everything right, check with your doctor to see if maybe there is a medical reason you aren't losing weight.

good luck!!

It is great that you are observing such wonderful increase in your stamina.. this means that what you're doing is really working.

I don't really have anything new to add.. but muscles REALLY weight more than fat and since you're walking regularly then you are gaining a lot of muscles and toning up too. Try to keep a track of your measurements as well, so that even if the scale is not moving yet, you can still record your progress.

Again I recommend that you journal (both your food and exercise) so that you don't fall into the trap of overestimating your exercise and underestimating your calorie intact.

Good luck and keep us posted, hopefully you'll lose again very soon :) (I week or two of not losing cannot be considered a plateau)
