best way to get started - for me!

when i decided to be committed to losing weight, not just starting and stopping and having more excuses than necessary, i decided i needed to figure out what works for me in general, not just in regards to weight. what i mean is, what is my personality?

i know that i can commit to something and stick to it if i have the following: support from people around, results in a reasonable amount of time, and plans that work for me. what i need HELP with is an actual plan and the best way to do it. i have no idea what i'm doing!! it's easy for me to say i can excercise and eat well everyday, but i don't know if i'm doing the very best that i can for myself, and i don't know all the other options.

so, figuring out my weaknesses and strengths, i did the following: i have an appt with a nutritionist this week to help me figure out the very best way for me to eat and lose weight. i have 4 different work out plans/books that i will look through and then decide on one that is best for me, based on the results i want and the time i have to work out.

so i guess what i'm trying to say with all this rambling, is figure out how you attempt to do anything in your life, and where you've had failures and successes, and work from there. hope this is helpful!

This is a great post!

Rainlover: I think it is great that you made this search and discovered your strengths and weaknesses. Good luck on finding a system that works. The appointment with a nutritionist is a great idea too.

Now you got me thinking... hmmmm

My weakness is to find a way

Rainlover, what a great post! It sounds like you're well on the way to success.

Taking stock for myself: my big plus is that I know what needs to be done, as far as the mechanics of diet and exercise. And I don't have children, so I have more freedom to do what needs to be done than many of you. I (should) have good motivation, too. While I'm obese, most of my health issues (blood pressure, cholesterol, joint problems) are "borderline", so small changes in weight can dramatically improve those conditions. I also have a boyfriend who is increasingly concerned about my obesity, but he's still here for me and helping as much as possible. (Not easy, because I can be VERY touchy about this topic!)

My big minus is my head. Sometimes, this feels insurmountable. It's very easy for me to avoid doing what needs to be done, deciding that something else always takes precedence. (Like you can't do more than one thing at a time, right?) And emotional eating (self-medicating with food) is a big roadblock. Are there mental health professionals who specialize in the terminally "hungry"? ;-)

i know what you mean. i don't have kids either, so i have a lot more freedom with time and with food than a lot of the women on this board. and also like you, i have a boyfriend who is supportive and concerned.

i've been going strong for a month, but i feel myself losing momentum, because i haven't had any success yet. so that's why i'm going to see the nutritionist, and that's also the reason why i posted, kind of trying to inspire myself again i guess!!
