Weight Management Clinic, again

And not so happy. I met with the nutritionist for the first time yesterday, and she was great. Then I opened my mail this morning.
Bill for $363.98 for "clinic 2" from the date I had my first unplanned consultation with the Associate Director. He talked to me for about half an hour. Took no history (that was already done, and not by his program or office), did no lab tests-- basically explained the program, gave me two phone numbers to set up psych & nutrition appts, and weighed me.
Apparently this was not submitted to my insurance, although before calling him in my referring doctor (who's his boss at the diabetes portion of the operation) checked that they did accept my insurance plan (which I'm hoping turns out to be true!) I'm trying not to freak out, and will request an itemized bill then try to reach this office and my insurance company to find out what the heck is going on. IF I can get a call back--- my last message, telling him that the psych their program uses doesn't accept self-pay patients or my insurance, was almost two weeks ago and still hasn't been returned.
This is not some shopping-mall practice, it's in a highly reputable hospital. Really wasn't expected this sort of shuffle, and I'm disappointed but staying on (new) plan.
Whine, anyone?

Whine away!!! I feel your pain, I am going through a similar freak out over an ER bill I recieved for over 1200 bucks. All they did was give me some meds for nausea and some IV fluids and 1200?? I got an itemized statement and they are crazy. Charged me 3 times for the same thing??
I hope your insurance does pay it, if they do they won't pay the full amount though due to they only pay necessary charges and they can't come back and charge you for the rest of it with most insurances.
I am glad you are staying on plan throughout the obvious stress they are causing you. I mean like you said can't they return a simple phone call? makes you hate drs don't it?
Good luck to you!!! And stay strong

Everyday I find new reasons to hate the medical & insurance business. And both claim they exist solely to protect & save you!
Good that you decide to stay on the plan. Is it a good plan?
Thanks. This has been submitted to my insurance, so I'm just waiting to see what they'll pay (i.e., how good a "coder" can make this look to them).
I think the plan is good, basically low-fat/low calories (around 1300/day), and it seems to be working for me (subject to fine-tuning, of course). Bring on that weekly weigh-in, Mary, I'm down 3.5 this week!
Wohhoo!! 3.5 lbs!! That's great!! I'll be posting the new weigh-in thread tomorrow.
I am sorry you are going through this but I would recommend you stay focus on your goals and how much all of this is going to make a difference in your life. It simply could be a billing error that is easily corrected so don't allow this to alter your path.

Thanks, you're probably right! In any case, it's been submitted to my insurance now (although they had all the info before...), so I'll wait to see what happens. And I did stay on plan, hurrah! Must learn not to freak out so easily, though...
