feel about dieting? Is it hard for you? It is mentally difficult for me!

What sort of diets are all of you on? What is working best for you?

Are you rewarding yourself for goals achieved? Do you set small goals or just the one big one?

The only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you consume. So, know that, I've accepted the fact that to lose weight, I have to reduce my caloric intake by at least 500 calories per day and exercise almost every day. I don't like dieting, but I do like teaching myself how to eat healthier.

Honestly, losing weight isn't difficult. It's KEEPING THE WEIGHT OFF that's the real challange. I have to accept the FACT that I have to exercise almost every day and watch what I eat for the rest of my life.

I sympathize. Yes, it is mentally difficult because you have to completely rethink the way you look at food and your relationship with eating.

I have been of Slim Fast for 14 weeks. I love the plan. It totally satisfies my craving for chocolate and sweets. It's easy, convenient, moderately priced, full of protein and very filling. Slim Fast works best for me because I have NO EXCUSE to fall off the wagon.

I rewarded myself for losing weight by opening the bag of clothes that my cousin gave me and fitting into a size 16...and they were looose!

Setting small weight goals is a must. Ten pound increments are the wisest. Keep the long term goal in mind but ten pounds is way more managable.

I never use the word diet. That word for me always represented failure. I eat healthy. It is not difficult for me because I was finally ready. I am eating 1200 calories and have lost 64 lbs to date. I love learning as much as i can about my body and what fuels it. My reward is my health is better and I get to buy new clothes every couple of months. It also has allowed me to have the confidence to flirt with men like I have ever had in the past. That confidence is worth so much to me that I know that I will never go back to eating poorly ever again.

I hope this helps.

I do weight watchers. I'm on week 10 and have lost 15.2 pounds. Still have over 100 to go. Sometimes its hard, sometimes not. But I've learned to identify the things that make me eat bad things, and now I think twice about what goes into my mouth.

Somedays I hate dieting, some days I love it.

I mostly follow WW and I follow The Biggest Loser Work out.

I belive small goals are the best. My 1st one was to get under 200. I originally wanted to be ther by last Christmas. Didn't happen, So I re-set the goal to by b-day( a weel ago) and I made it 5 days early.

The thing is, if you miss a goal, it's OK, you're human, just set a new one and move on.

Feel about dieting?

Good right now (seeing results and feeling better), but not always! It is tough to change years of bad habits.

Plan?

Low calorie/ low fat. My nutritionist reminds me that breakfast is important, and I am SO not a morning person, so I have a Slim-Fast shake and then fruit when I get to the office. The rest of the day I sort of plan out the day before on slimfast.com. Saving $$$, too. (And, no I'm not really on the SF plan, just using them for my own nefarious purposes!)

Goals/Rewards?

I plotted my RMR and expected calories, and figured it's reasonable for me to shoot for 3 lbs/week right now. Made a chart, with an estimated weekly weight, that goes on until my goal. (I know I'll slow down/hit walls, but am losing > 3lbs right now, so hopefully it will even out.) Then put milestones... thinking about rewards now. Other than being thinner and healthier, that is ;-)

Mary Anne,

I am not going to lie, it is a mental challenge for me too. I am working on my mind set while I try changing things 2 weeks at a time, losing weight, not really, I have been bouncing around in a 10 lb range for some time now while I try to get my mind, and life straight. Exercise I can do, I love to work out, I love how good it makes me feel to work out. I have asthma so that can be a challenge sometimes but on the days when I accomplish a full work out without being short of breath it feels great. dieting? I hate the word I mean that word automatically makes me feel deprived. I am trying to cut down my calories little by little without dramatically taking things I am love and am addicted to away all at once. I tried that and didn't make it. I am addicted to fast food from years of eating on the run at work, if you didn't eat on the run you didn't eat at all. Another problem I have is bfast, I am bad about skipping bfast then am starving by lunch. I have never been a bfast person, usually if I eat within an hour of getting up I get sick from it anyhow. I am just a weird person. BUT anyways, my point is you are not alone, this is a mental challenge as well as a physical one. I wish you luck in this battle against your mind and hope we both come out on top. My anniversary is Sat, and when I started this a few months ago, I wanted to lose below 200 lbs by then, not unrealistic until I got so sick I couldn't exercise or eat right. Couldn't eat right cuz I had to eat whatever my hubby brought home which was usually Mcdonalds....LOLl He doesn't like to come home from work and cook so when I can't cook, we eat out fast food usually. I am better physically now, so time to work on mental obstacles. I have rambled enough so I just hope you know that you are not alone in this mental battle.

Mary Anne,
I have been on a diet and exercise plan for about 2 weeks, and I have lost 10 lbs. I purchased some pills at Walmart called Green Tea Pills, which are perfectly healthy. The Apple Cider Pills are good also. With a combination of this pill after every meal, exercise and eating right, I have found it easy to lose weight! Not only is it easy, but I find myself wanting to work out. I have substituted my fav foods for the next best thing. Instead of fried chicken, I eat boiled. Instead of pudding or cottage cheese, I choose the Low Fat types. I have set a large goal for myself. My goal is 110lbs. I hope this helps.

hey all. for me, i tried cutting out lots of sugars and cutting back on my carbs. that wasn't doing it for me, so i went to a nutritionist, and she put me on a 1400 calorie day "way of eating." (I hate saying diet!!) i also have to keep a food journal. i've just started this, so it's very new! i didn't want to do the food journal thing, only because i'm so lazy. but now, i have to be so responsible about it, that i think it's going to help. i've already passed up stuff just because i didn't want to have to record it and count the calories, which is something i didn't really care so much about before. it's hard for me to do calorie counting also, again just because i'm lazy, but i think it's best for me, because it makes me accountable finally!! like i said, it's still new so we will have to wait for the results!

as for excercise, i go to the gym every week day, and i do something physical on the weekends, even if it's just going for a walk. i had no real plan at the gym, but now i'm trying to do cardio 3 days a week and weight strengthening the 2 other days.

i try not to think of it as a diet or a temporary fix, i'm trying to think of it as a life change, and that definately helps.
