There are two things that I crave...Chocolate and potatoe chips.
Mostly when I am watching TV at night. What do I do? I give in, but only when I can - meaning I have not eaten everything I can for the day (I try to follow WW so if I have the points I give in and eat them.)
Of course most of the time it requires me to go down the street to the deli and buy what I am craving since I DO NOT keep it in the house.
I think that if you deprive yourself of EVERYTHING you love while dieting(boy do I hate that word-this is supposed to be a life change, not a diet) you will not succeed.
The only thing I am craving is a wonderful Mexican meal with tortilla chips, lots of salsa, and a beef chimichanga with sour cream and cheese sauce. I am dealing with it by telling myself I can have it on Saturday. I've been telling myself that for several Saturdays, but for some reason I never have a chance to get to the restaurant. One Saturday I had to take my daughter to a birthday party, another Saturday DH, DD & I went to the SeaLab to look at the fish. So, I just keep telling myself one of these Saturdays, I can have my wonderful meal. Mary Anne
So last night I had a homemade taco salad, with mountains of lettuce and tomatoes, 2 measly ounces of ground beef mixed with some salsa, 1 oz shredded cheese, and 1T real sour cream. Mixed up really well, that "Mexican" taste was in every bite... I'll be doing this again. Even had enough calories left for a margarita!
Back to topic, obviously I'm with everyone else... try to plan/save for the inevitable cravings. Or find a close fit that will satisfy the urge. (Remind me of this in 2 weeks, please!)
I've been trying to do the moderation thing, but it hasn't worked for the past couple of days. Like yesterday, I had 100 calories left to reach the minimum of 1,200 calories, so what did I do? I have a 600 calorie snack! So I end up the day with 1,700 calories (!)
My problem is, once I start with something I can't stop myself. And instead of having one serving, I go for more and more.

Moderation and portion control is key.

Oh, geez...nothing like a fast opportunity to show you how I have to overanalyze EVERYTHING.
