It's time - again

Hi everyone.

I'm a 30-something mom to 3 kiddos, Ethan (4), Gillian (3) and Owen (16 months). I've been overweight for most of my life, execpt for that year or so right before I got pregnant with my oldest child that I was totally into working out. I had joined Weight Watchers in March of 2000 and lost around 80 pounds in about 7 months, kept if off for a few months, then got pregnant and never managed to get back to taking care of me. I guess continuing to have children might have had a little to do with that - along with massive stress and some serious depression, lots of emotional eating and sitting on my butt might have had something to do with it too.

Oh yes, I'm a professional pastry chef - it's a fairly new career for me as I used to be a software engineer. It's a good thing I hate the oven I have at home, it keeps me from baking unless I have a birthday party or holiday event for my family to bake for.

Anyway, I'd like to lose around 99 pounds. I know I can do it, I've done it before. This time though, I'd like to keep it off.

I'm not doing any special weight-loss plan, although I'll probably stick to something akin to WW how it was back when I was successful with it before.

Right now my main challenge is getting over Coke withdrawal - I'm so addicted to soda. Diet sodas and I don't agree, so it has to go all together.

I got on the scale today and weigh 234 pounds, not the heaviest I've been non-pregnant (that was 254.5), but still not good at all. I'm going to break out the tape measure tomorrow and take some measurements (I'd do it today, but I have to find the thing first).

So, that's it in a nutshell. I look forward to getting to know you guys.

Hi, Robyn-

Welcome! Having three *really* little ones must keep you so busy that it's tough to focus on you (good workout, though?). I wish you the best of luck on your weight-loss journey.

When you said "Coke withdrawal", it really struck a chord! I was a die-hard Pepsi drinker, and empathize. Water still feels like torture/deprivation to me, and I'm not crazy about diet sodas (although root beer and Fresca are tolerable). Fortunately, unsweetened iced tea (with fresh lemon) has become my new addiction. No calories... just caffeine, and brown teeth if I'm not careful!

Good luck with WW, or whatever you decide. (Were you using the "points" system? Very nice, I thought...)

Hi Robyn---

I'm not a big soda drinker but I do like one from time to time.

Hi Misha.

Yes, it was the points system - the original points system. I know they've done a lot of changing to the way that fiber impacts point values. But that original system worked very well for me...and I still have all of the books and stuff. :)

I did WW a loooong time ago as well, when I was 13 or 14 years old (funny, I was the same height I am now and weighed about 138 and thought I was fat and was teased for being fat in school...and I was very active at that time too, played soccer, ran cross country, danced). That was back in the day of exchanges, and it was so complicated and yucky that I couldn't stick with it for more than an month.

I have tried Coke Zero, and Diet Coke with Splenda - it's not the taste that bugs me, but whenever I drink a diet soda, I get a seriously upset stomach. :( I was hoping that wouldn't happen with something sweetened with Splenda since it's made from sugar, but sadly it does.

Water with lemon is good. :)

I did the original points plan, too, and thought it was great. One of my former colleagues is going back on that starting Monday, so I'm translating my food to points again to support her. It'll be interesting to see how my new way of eating meshes!

Welcome to the board Robyn, we're glad to have you with us.

I too gained a lot of weight during my pregnancy (70+ lbs), and even more during postpartum (sigh). WOW! You must be very busy with 3 young children around the house. I only have 1 boy (2 years old) and he's more than I can handle LOL. It sometimes gets tricky to find some time for me (especially when it comes to exercise), but hey you do what you can, right?

Looking forward to knowing you better.. Good luck
