Did you discover that some of your favorite food/snacks are much higher in calories than you thought? And you went "gasp" I was eating THAT much? And at the same time did you re-discover food that is surprisingly much lower in calories that you expected?
What is your favorite 'good' food?
And what made you go YIKES!

fat free fudge & vanilla swirl ice cream on a stick

cheating they are that good.
My biggest 'bad' surprise was Mcdonald's milkshakes. I knew it was high in calories, but 1,100 calories for 1 drink??!! And I usually had 2 when I went there (drank them instead of water). I still love it, but with 1,100 calories.. it's just not worth it.
My biggest 'good' surprise was strawberries. A medium strawberry is 5 calories.. yes five. A big bowl holds about 10 strawberries, so that's only 50 calories. Add some
Mmmm, love those strawberries with FF Cool Whip! Also blackberries, which have become my quick fix when my fiber numbers aren't up to snuff for the day (a cup is 70 calories/8g fiber- twice as much as strawberries).
My best discovery was lettuce. No, I didn't think it had a lot of calories :-), but found that when I crave tacos (or steak, or ...), I can break up one taco with sour cream and mix it with a huge bowl of romaine. Completely satisfying, where before I would have needed, oh, five or six tacos. The bulk really does it for me!
Worst rude awakening was just how much thoughtless eating I did-- amazing. And grapes! I would eat a big, big bowl and feel very virtuous. At 120 calories a cup? Just adds up too quickly for me... I need to portion those babies out!
