I have hit my first major plateau....
I thought it would be great to hear what everyone has done to break their plateau...

Increase in exercise?
Decrease in exercise?
Water intake?
How long did you plateau?

Just tell about your experiance with being in a plateau..

Thanks

I met 2 dreadful plateaus. The first was back at 236 lbs (can't forget that number, wrote it A LOT LOL). I tried several stuff but what worked was doing something drastic. I followed a very strict cleansing diet for 5 days, then I slowly added back the food over a period of 2 weeks. I weighed in a week after I started and found that I was off the plateau.

Right now I'm on my second big plateau. I only lost a couple of pounds or so since new year (but I'm still losing inches, but this also slowed down). I've been slacking off a bit lately (doing OK, but not giving it the best I have). So since Monday I've been very strict with myself. I'm on a 1,200 calorie diet and I am adding in exercise slowly. I will see

Mary, what exactly is a cleansing diet? I have read several posts about them but the only thing I can find on the net is completely liquid diets and they are usually 3 days. 5 days of complete liquid sounds like torture so I just thought I would ask.

Angela, it wasn't a liquid diet and I don't think I can do a liquid diet. I think it wasn't 5 days, it was either 6 or 7.

An update: I think it's working.. as of this morning I'm down 2.5 lbs.. if this continues, then I'm officially off that plateau.

Whenever I start to struggle, I do a one day semi detox. Here's the link, if you are interested: http://www.weightlossforall.com/detox.htm. So far, doing that and doing interval training on the crosstrainer and treadmill have worked. My weightloss has slowed down now, but I am still losing. I did it to start off with and lost 5 lbs that stayed off. I don't usually lose that much, though.

I was just curious if it was liquid, sometimes I think I would benefit but my dr would have a cow if I asked him about doing anything like that. he is so worried I will crash my immune system more than the steroids already have it isn't funny. LOL Just wondering how you survived liquid that long if that is what it was. I have read about that diet somewhere on the net but it wasn't called a cleansing diet where I read it. Good that you managed to stick to it.

As crazy as it sounds....EATING! I have found that sometimes, I restrict myself TO much, and then low cal/exercise thing starts to be counter-productive. Meaning they just cross each other out. Plateaus will come and go, and I PERSONALLY don't think there is ONE thing you can do that will always work to get you off them. You just have to try different things, and hope it eventually works. That's what is the hardest about weight loss I think, is finding the balance of it all! Good luck!
