night time hunger?

I am so frustrated with night time eating. Yesterday I did so great with my eating then once the kids were in bed and I was winding down I started looking for something to eat. I ended up eating some cookies and a bagel. Any insight on night eating and how to either curb that or some healthy but yummy treats to eat at night?
Am I even hungry or am I bored or what? It's frustrating todo so great all day then just throw it all away just because I finally have moment to my self ( i like watching t.v. when I DO have a moment, should I just stop that?)

There are a couple of things I do to cut down the night time cravings. If I'm just hanging out, watching TV, I try and find something to do with my hands, like crochet. I'm working on a huge blanket right now and it's really hard to eat while crocheting. And I'm not very good at it, so I really have to focus. Maybe you could find something like that to do. I also found that it's very helpful to brush my teeth when I start getting the muchies. The sweetness in the tootpaste will usually curb any craving I have for sweets, and I don't like eating right after I've brushed my teeth.

Hope this helps!

The same thing happens to me, I think because I get bored.

They key for me is to have low cal snacks. I keep of bowl of the 100 calorie pack snacks on my counter. They come in so many different flavores-oreas-peanut butter-cheese its- so I munch on them.

My problem with eating at night is due to my darling nephew (who lives with us and is very picky) decides he doesn't like what I fix and goes for fast food which I am so totally addicted to. As for the eating when I am not hungry I tend to do that during the day when no one is at home except me and ds (my other 2 are in school) cuz I am lonely and bored. SO yes it is probably due to boredom. Thank god they get out of school in 2 weeks cuz then I will have so many kids here I won't be able to think of food. LOL

NEVER eat night time snacks while sitting infront of the TV. It's way to easy to pile CRAP in your mouth while watching TV.

Healthy nite time snack alternatives:

slice of cheese
piece of fruit
tablespoon of peanut butter
1 ounce of nuts (about 1/4 cup)
popcorn

When you eat something healthy then there's no reason to feel bad about eating late.

I get bad cravings to at night and I like to try to stick with my
no eating after 8:00-9:00 but just to kill the hungry pain I grab
like a handful of grapes or a couple bites of my fatfree pudding
or 1/2 of a lowfat grola bar just something in small amounts
to take the edge off withour feeling bad or guilty.
Hope this helps Niapge

First of all I would like to extend a very Happy Mother's Day to you Christine

I understand how busy it is to raise children because I am a mother of 2 and I work outside of our home. I also understand the need for some 'Hy' time.

You could set aside a healthy snack for Christine time. Stick to that snack and nothing more and allow yourself the treat.

If one time you decide to have a more calorie+ snack, plan it, enjoy it and dont feel guilty about it.

I dont know how active you are with exercising daily (which could also explain why you are hungry).

Working out is like an appetite boost and I think we were made that way; to burn fuel - we have to have fuel!!

If you are not exercising and trying to lose weight then try and set aside a variety of snacks.

The key is not to guilt yourself into thinking negative but enjoy it. Watch the quantity and enjoy your much deserved Christine time!!

On a personal level Christine, Only you can tell if it is just 'snacking' or something more. I say this with all respect to you. This is an area that I have tons of expertise on so it is from that I am speaking about my own life. Most of my life I struggled with overeating at nights. It was not until 5 years ago when I became a Christian that I was able to deal with the root of my behaviour.

The way I see food has changed 10000%. At nights, when the kids are up in bed, my husband is doing his paperwork, I run to my bedroom where I have my journal, my bible and my study with my favourite mug filled with hot peppermint tea. That is where you find me most nights for Hy time!

I think it is good that you are questioning..and looking for a better solution.
Proud of you girl,..never give up!

Blessings,
hyacinth

I'm still fighting that battle myself..
luckily i've been very busy and tired at night so i don't do too much snacking at night.

i keep a 30 oz jug of ice watere on the counter, so if i go towards the kitchen area to snack, i drink out of it.. and i mean really drink.. i usually suck down the whole thing, and then if i still want somehting to munch on, i eat a handful of gold fish crackers.

good luck.

It's very important to have some 'me' time, so don't consider quitting that. As it was suggested before, if it is just mindless crunching, then you can substitute this with healthy food and plan for it during the day. Eat 200 calories (or whatever) less during the day and have a 200 calorie snack late at night. I find it very satisfying to have
