Frustrated!

I just don't get it! I did pretty good over the weekend, didn't lose any, but didn't gain anything, either. I've been noticing a trend that whenever I work out at the gym (cardio, no weights), I gain weight, but when I don't work out, I lose weight. Very strange. So I decided to cut my workout back to 2-3 times a week instead of every day and see what happens. Well, I went to the gym yesterday (my first time back since I hurt my arm), did 30 mins of cardio, and sure enough, as of this morning, I've gained back 2 lbs!!!! What in the heck is going on? It's getting to the point that I'm scared to work out! Can anyone help???

258/256 (ugh!)/238(mini-goal)

That happens to me too. I hate it. But from what I have read over the years is that, you are building muscle which is heavier than fat but it burns fat. So you want some muscle. Right, ladies?

You're right, it's very frustrating. I don't really have any advice except to ditch the scale. Take some measurements and compare using inches lost rather than pounds lost. A lady at my husband's work dropped 4 sizes but only 10 pounds or so on the scale then eventually she started to drop really fast on the scale.

Believe it or not, you might not be eating enough.

I've had that thought, too, that I might not be eating enough on the days I work out, but I eat 5 or 6 times a day, averaging between 1300 and 1500 calories, and I just don't see how to add more food in......... I'm drinking 3 or more liters of water every day. I just don't know what to do. This has happened to me before. A little over a year ago, I was able to lose 30 lbs just with food changes alone, and as soon as I started working out, the weight came back on, and so did the inches. Of course, I became so frustrated then that I just gave up totally and I don't want that to happen this time. I'm thinking about not working out for the rest of the month and then start back in gradually in June and seeing what happens then. I'm also worried because I am at my "plateau" weight. I was 255 for so long (probably 6 or 7 years), that I find it really hard to break past that number (I've done it twice and it's never lasted very long). It's like this is where my body has programed itself to be at. And this weight flucuation is driving me batty!

Are you weighing yourself everyday? If so, I think you need to try not to do that. Give the exercise and great eating you are doing a chance to work together.

I used to work out 6 days a week too, and when I cut back to 3 I started losing more. You just need to give it a chance to work.

I used to only weigh in once a week, on my last attempt at losing my weight, but when I noticed after several straight weeks of gaining, I started weighing everyday and, to be quite honest, I don't know if I could resist the temptation to weight everyday.

Like Mary said, put away the scale....Take it out of your bathroom or wherever it is so you do not see it every day. Trust me on this....Just take it out once a week, weigh yourself and the put it away. Or maybe have someone in your house hide it on you so you are not tempted during the week.
