Wish me luck

As of 8pm last night, I am making my 3rd attempt at quitting smoking. Cold turkey. And I'm already miserable and grouchy. I have really strange reactions to the patch and gum, so cold turkey is really the only option. So I'm sitting here at work just chewing on a straw and trying to not think about the box of ice cream sandwichs that are in the freezer calling my name. Argh!

Good for you! I'm so glad to know that there's someone else out there going through this with me! How much did you smoke and how long were you a smoker? I've only been smoking for about 3 1/2 years and I was up to a pack a day, sometimes more. And I already want to rip the head off of the next person who speaks to me. Thankfully it's a slow day at the office, I can just sit in here and fume and drink water and chew on my straws. Grrr!

Good luck to both of you. My dad has smoked his whole life (switched from cigs to pipe years ago) and 2 of my brothers did too. My oldest and his wife put them down when they got pg with their oldest (over 22 yrs ago) and never went back, I was amazed, the youngest one hasn't been so fortunate, every time he tries to quit he goes literally crazy on everyone around him and ends up smoking again. So it is an either way to go situation. All I can offer you is the best of luck, and I am so glad I am not the only one that chews on straws...LOL I do it to not mindlessly munch...LOL

With this last baby I quit and then started back up but was smoking about 4 a day. B4 I stopped on Sat I was smoking about 6-8 a day. My bf has been on a** to quit. Pbthth to him. :p

I wish you all the luck in the world.

I quit using the patch 6 1/2 years ago. I honestly believe that if you are mentally ready to do this, you will succeed.

Keep me posted on how you are doing.

good luck to all of you who are going cold turkey..

i have been a 'casual' smoker for about 10 yrs.. (casual= 1 pack a week)
when i got pg w/ DD in May 03 i had to quit cause the smell/taste of it made me gag.
when she was about 7 months old I broke down an bought a pack. then when she was 8 months old i got pg w/ DS and i stopped smoking cause again it made me sick.
about 6 months ago i started smoking again..
i usually only have about 2-5 cigs a day/sometimes less..
i know i really need to just quit, cause i don't want my kids to see me smoke, plus its an expense that i could do without.

i have heard that it takes 10 days to break a habit, so if you can make it thru the 1st 10 days, it should be a little easier...

Are the worst of your withdrawl symptoms gone? I remember the last time I tried to quit, I was doing OK by day 4 or 5, but those first few days are a killer.........
