Memorial Day Picnics/Plans

With the holiday weekend here, how do you handle picnics and food?

There is always so much yummy choices, what tricks do you use to stay on track?

And while we are on the subject of Memorial Day, what are your plans?

My thoughts on the food are to stick to chicken and salad. Drink a lot of water. I find that it is a good idea to have something in your hands to avoid nibbling. Such as carry a small purse in one hand and some thing to drink in the other. That way I can't 'pick'.

My plans are to clean my house tomorrow and finally put my winter clothes away and take out the summer ones. My mother in law is coming to visit us (I have to say I got VERY lucky in that department-she is great!). We are going to a huge flea market on Sunday, so I will get good exercise walking it. It takes about 4-6 hours to walk the whole thing.

Monday I have to work at my hospital job till 5 then we will cook out.

As of now we have no plans, I just found out DH will actually be off Monday (he forgot to tell me LOL) So it will just be us and the kids as far as I know. If anything his mom may ask us to come over and grill and swim, and since she usually fixes healthy stuff the food won't be a problem til dessert then of course she will have cakes and stuff at least 1. But I will get exercise if we go over there cuz of the pool. Guess I will let you know IF we decide to do anything other than sit right here.

Quiet weekend here, too. The pool in my building finally opens, so I'm looking forward to some laps, and I downloaded Dreamweaver and plan to play with some web designs. Cal has a couple of presentations to work on this weekend, so I'm entertaining myself.

I love your suggestion about keeping the hands occupied with water and non-food items. What a great trick! BTW, have you ever noticed that there are usually sodas everywhere at a picnic (and beer), but water is scarce? Maybe I'm just going to the wrong picnics ;-)

Have a great time at the flea market!

Well thank gawd my treat myself day is today so I can eat
a few things I have been craving then back on track when
I wake up.Whats good about this holiday is lot's of people
grill out so it's nothing to throw a peice of chicken or
pork chop on the grill along with either corn on the cob
or bake potatoe(with fat free butter spray), and south
beach and slim fast make it easy to pack along 1 of there
yummy snacks, there is also Baked chips thats about 75 calories
for 15 chips. So this holiday shouldn't be to hard and with
all the outdoor activities to keep ya going!
Good luck 2 every1

I know what you mean about the drinks...My dh and I do not drink really. I like and occasional(very rare) beer or wine, but Michael is a diabetic. People I guess just assume you drink soda or beer.I have been really avoiding soda-I used to live on diet coke, but the sodium in it is NUTS.

Well don't have any plans to go away. We will finish setting up the pool, cook on the grill and work on the house. We might go for a drive. I hope everyone here has a great weekend.
