Hello! My name is Melissa and I almost 30 years old. I have been struggling with my weight since I was 11 years old. When I was a senior in HS I gained over 60 pounds from the beginning of the year until graduation. I started at 160 lbs and went up to 220. 7 years later (2001) I had my thyroid tested and found out that I am hypothyroid. I see an Endocrinologist every 3 months and I STILL have not found the right dosage. I get blood work done and we change the dosage at each visit.
Anywho, although I was never thin I was always an athlete. I miss playing sports and doing athletic things with my DH. He is in the Army and is VERY fit and active. I long for the day that he and I can do a 5K race together. I do HATE to exercise but am starting to get into it now. I've lost 16.5 pounds with WW and have my next weigh in tomorrow night.
I've been on ivillage for the past year but just discovered this website over the weekend. DH and I are desperate to have children and unless I lose the weight I doubt it will happen.
Thanks!
Melissa 281/257/160

Hi Melissa!
I'm new to the board as well and was told to check out your intro... we have sooo much in common! We're both hypothyroid and are both trying to get on the same dosage. On top of that, both of our husbands are military (although mine is in the Navy).
We should be life-change buddies, I can definitely see getting a lot of support and knowledge from you. =)
Welcome to the board!
Congratulations on the pounds lost already!! And welcome to the board Melissa, we're glad
Thanks everyone for such a warm welcome! I know this group is just what I need to KEEP my butt in gear. I have some events coming up in the next few months that are going to be hard to stay good. The first week of July DH is coming home from Afghanistan for 2 weeks R&R and
Hello and thank you for the nice welcome. I would love to be your life changing buddy!
Just wondering how you are enjoying Navy life? The Army consists (mostly) of people who are so in shape and expect their spouses to be as well. I am so uncomfortable going to any functions so I don't go to any Family Readiness stuff and haven't in the almost 11 years he's been in.
Well, I look forward to getting to know you better.
Hello Melissa, welcome to our board.
We are happy to have you and I look forward to your posts.

Navy life is decent- surprisingly enough, a lot of the wives off my husband's ship are overweight so I'm not that uncomfortable going to FSG functions. The Navy doesn't have the same fitness standards as the Army.. our boys mostly sit in chairs all day and the only excercise they get is going up and down ladders. =)
Since my husband left on deployment, I've lost a few more pounds and one of his shipmates saw a picture of me and said I was looking good- he could tell I'd lost weight in my face. I was so excited to hear that! It really made my day.
