I know a lot of you are doing a calorie counting weight loss plan.

I am curious as to how you determine how many to eat. I have the Biggest Loser book and this is what they say. Take your present weight and multiply it by 7 and that equals what you need to eat to lose weight. So if you weigh 250

I have always been told to multiply your weight by 12 to get what you need to maintain then subtrack increments of 500 to lose weight. in other words 250 * 12 = 3000 -500 (for 1 lb a week or 1000 for 2 / week) to get 2500. If you eat 2500 or less a day you will lose at least 1 lb a week. Now the 12 is for sedentry lifestyle. It goes up for active but I just keep up with sedentry on it all so that I know that even if I do nothing but sit on my butt all day I can lose weight. I have used several websites that calculate it too and they all say for a sedentry person at 250 lbs to eat 2700 to maintain so that multiply by 7 would work there for sure!!

Now the multiply by 12 didn't work for me. According to this I should be eating more than 2,500 for maintenance, but most websites say I need 2,000 for maintenance for my age & height.

Multiplying by 7 would put me at around 1,500 calories which may be realistic. Although for me I see more success at 1,200 but I do lose SLOWLY at 1,500. Decreasing calories needed as you shrink is also realistic.
