Hi all!

I am a 42 with 2 kids (daughter 1 and son 15) and 3 step (27, 24, 20). I am new to message boards so please excuse the longhand. I started an exercise program and food journal last week. Going good so far: starting weight 315.5, current weight 310, goal weight 145. My friends and I are using The Fitness Challenge game to get us started. However friends are not as excited about the idea as I had hoped. Hoping this board will help with movtivation; always nice to know others are also along for the ride. Any advice is greatly welcome.

Jessica

Take care,

Jessica

Jessalyn

Thanks for the nice welcome. The Fitness Challenge Game is a board game (sort of) that you play with another person to help you stay motivated to exercise. The game runs for 8 weeks - you can start again at the end of the 8 weeks - and during each week you compete for fitness point, i.e. walking for 30 mins = 1 point. At the end of each week, you total your points to see who wins. Whoever has the most points gives the other person(s) a "Wager" Card which is usually something to help out the winner. For example, I won last week, so my friend has to run my errands this week. The game can be reused as many times as you want. A game is only for 2 players, so we bought 2 games so 3 of us can play. Does this make sense? I found it at Target.com.

Thanks again,

Jessica

Take care,

Jessica

Hi Jessica :-)
The game sounds like a great way for you and your friends to keep each other going! Welcome to the board. I think you'll find this is a wonderful place to come to for support, encouragement, or just to vent. :)

Welcome Jessica! My name is Melissa and I joined this board a week or two ago. I am so glad to have the support of others who know exactly what it's like to need to lose sooo much weight.

I really need to lose mostly for health reasons (want to have a baby, I have a thyroid disorder, asthma, metabolic syndrome, etc) but also to feel good about myself.

I hope that you will enjoy the board!

Melissa

Thanks for the welcome. I know what you mean bout finding other people who ned to lose this much weight; that's why I joined this board. I had a baby 13 months ago and was overweight at the time. So, I understand wanting to lose it before getting pregnant. Being overweight made the pregnancy and birth more difficult than I had expected. Are you on a particular diet or exercise program? I wish you all the best in your weight loss efforts.

Jessica

Jessica

Hi Jessica,
Welcome. That sounds like a neat game. Maybe I should get it for DH and I. We both want to lose weight but haven't done so well. It sounds like you are off to a great start.

Hi, Jessica!

I am following Weight Watchers (WW). I personally prefer their program because I am eating real food each and everyday and I can eat whatever I want. I still eat fast food one night per week and that really helps me to feel like I am not depriving myself. I never use my flex points for the week so I just do well eating my daily points allowance (currently 30 but moving to 28 soon, I hope!)

I really need to incorporate exercise though because in the 2 months I've been doing this I only exercised one day so far. I know that in order to achieve my goals and keep them, I need to regularly exercise.

Thanks for the heads up about pregnancy. That is something that definitely worries me!

GOOD LUCK TO YOU!

Melissa
