CURBING IMPATIENCE
| Fri, 06-09-2006 - 12:18am |
Today was another successful day of mine, with no extraordinary hunger, lots of exercise and total eating control. Nevertheless, I feel so uncomfortable because of my impatience. It is only the 4th day that I am into this healthy lifestyle and of course I understand how soon it is to get to my final point. I already see results, but I am sooooo impatient to get to my goal weight, not just see some results. I don't know how to tame my impatience. I try to concentrate on my studies, on work, try to think of other things but nothing helps. I am constantly thinking when am I going to be 140 lbs. Any suggestions?

First Congratulations on 4 days of exercise and good eating habits. that's a struggle in itself and you should be very proud!
and I know what you mean.. I think everyone here does! We would love to wake up tomorrow and be at our goal weight. It's hard to stay focused when you know it could be a year or better before you get to where you want to be. Maybe you could try to break it up into smaller goals. 10-20 lb increments, a dress size, reaching a new exercise milestone... whatever works for you.
try focusing on what you already have accomplished instead of what you haven't. some days you'll struggle.. some days it will come easy. but the important thing is to never give up!
hope it helps! jess
My First 10% of Body Weight
(Drat! When I saw the title of your post, I thought you had the cure...)
First of all, huge congratulations on your success so far. That's a big motivator right there. Secondly, PLEASE give yourself major credit for this! Try not to be discouraged because you didn't lose 50 lbs this week, as hard as it seems to accept. When my nutritionist confirmed what we all already know, that it is sadly NOT possible to safely do this, I wanted to bite her. When she suggested 2 or 3 lbs a week was reasonable, I almost caved. But then I realized that 10 lbs a month meant 120 lbs a year... and if I'd stayed with this moderate approach a year ago, I'd be at goal instead of even heavier.
If you make small changes a habit, it does get easier, I promise. I knew that I'd have bad days or weeks, but I've kept a chart showing what a 2 lb/wk loss would be since I started, and compare myself with that. It helps me to remember that when I gain a pound or two, I'm still in a much better place overall, and these setbacks are just setbacks, not the end of the diet.
Sorry, didn't mean to sound so preachy... you're doing great, and the advice was probably mostly aimed at myself!!!

Thank you for the encouragement.
I think also because
"Food zombie", what a great and accurate description! I'm glad it's getting a bit easier for you, and thank you, too, for the encouragement.

Hi everyone! I'm a lurker de-lurking....
First thing... the hardest part is actually committing to doing it and you HAVE accomplished that so yeah you!
Second, a quote from my dear mom ---> "You didn't put it on overnight and it ain't coming off overnight!" How true... how true...
Last, I know this sounds crazy but it's helped keep me in check, Make a spreadsheet! Do it either on your pc or in a notebook. Write the day you started and every week (same day each week) write down your weight. This will help you get an idea of how to 'track' your weight loss for a reasonable time frame. I also keep a calendar and 'X' the dates that I exercise so I can compare to my weekly weight loss and see the patterns. I lose 2 - 3 lb. a week so I figure ahead like 8 - 10 weeks on my 'spreadsheet' and I get a good idea of where I'll be in 2 months which does a lot for keeping me motivated. If I take a stab at it I can guess where I'll be in 4 months (decrease weekly wght loss as you get closer to goal of course). It it such a motivator and keeps me on track b/c when I'm not where I think I should be ... well... I can usually look and see that I've not made the right food choices or I've slacked on working out... etc. I even did a 'best case scenario' spreadsheet and a 'worse case scenario' spreadsheet. lol! Makes it easier to dream about what I'll wear to the company Christmas party *wink*
Hey there... glad you de-lurked...
I think the spreadsheet is a great idea.. thanks!
Bama, I think we're twins separated at birth!
Sometimes I go a little crazy with the best- and worst-case scenario spreadsheets... and planning what I'll wear to the Christmas party, too. Nice to hear from a kindred spirit!
