How to get more energy??

I'm wondering if anyone has any tips on how to get more energy? I realize I have a newborn (4 months) but he's been sleeping through the night for a few weeks now. I came back to work 4 weeks ago and it seems like I'm just exhausted all the time. I've been going to the gym for 3 weeks now and I thought that would help, but it hasn't so far. I know it's probably just normal to be tired with all these things going on, but if there's anything I can do to help, I'll try it! Vitamins? Give up caffeine? More exercise? I just don't even know where to start. Help!

Thanks,
Holli

I've never had a baby, so I'm sure there are better sources here to answer about balancing family, work and trying to find time to be healthy.

I would think exercise would help too. are you getting enough iron? How many hours of sleep are you getting nightly? I would say if you're doing everything right, check with your doctor maybe something more serious is going on and you don't realize it.

hope you feel better soon!

  1. Keep exercising

  2. Drink TONS of water

  3. Cut out the caffeine/sugar

  4. Eat good carbs, whole grains

  5. Possibly cut down on dairy if it's an issue

  6. Vitamins

sleep when the baby naps if you are home.
maybe a 15 min nap when you first come home from work
drink 8-10 glasses of water daily
exercise
eat small and often (I generally eat something every two - three hours)
peanut butter in moderation is good, almonds, walnuts (again in moderation)veggies, fruits, protein---sugar can make you feel sluggish

Hi Holli

I went through the same thing when my daughter was born (13 months ago). The vitamins definitely help. Getting your body used to everything you do each day and getting your hormone levels back to normal takes time, but it will happen. I don't know if you are breastfeeding, but when I transitioned to bottles at (6 months), I started feeling better.

Hope this helps.

Jessica

Take care,

Jessica

Four month old baby, work, gym... I'm tired just thinking about it!

If you check in with your physician, you might ask about B-complex shots... the hospital-based weight-loss program here uses them to boost energy in their very-low-calorie patients. But it sounds perfectly reasonable and normal for you to be tired right now; you may just need to keep up all the good things you're doing and wait for them to kick in.

Good luck, and kisses to the baby,

Misha

What does your schedule look like? After returning from work, are you on your feet non-stop (i.e. if not taking care of baby, you'll be cooking, doing the dishes, cleaning, organizing, laundry, etc?) If this is the case, by all means stop and re-schedule your priorities.

Having a 4 mo is very demanding (is she sitting yet?).. even more if you're breastfeeding. So don't try to be a champion and be a super-mom, super-housewife, super-chef, super-wife. If you're cooking, don't cook everyday, instead cook in bulk and freeze (for later in the week or even for next week).. don't expect the house to be perfect, you have a 4 mo for crying out loud LOL. Only focus on keeping 1-2 rooms really clean (living room & bedroom were my choices).. the rest is not a priority.. only do them if you can really spare the energy. Take whatever help you can get from anybody. Above all, DON"T feel guilty for thinking about yourself. When you're thinking about yourself you're actually investing in the welfare of your newborn and your family.

See a doctor and take some vitamins. Don't forget your water.
