introducing myself...
| Fri, 06-16-2006 - 11:23am |
Hello...My name is Wendy. I am 27 years old -- from south Alabama. I have been working on my weight loss since January 06 by going to a gym. I started out with a partner and two friends that I saw just about every day....well, things have happened and as it turns out..I'm all alone in the work out room now!! I'm still doing well with my part (at least I feel that way today) but I think it would help greatly if I have a support system to vent/celebrate with! So, I just wanted to introduce myself and hope that I can get to know all of you.....it would be nice to have someone understand what I'm going through!

Welcome to the board and congratulations on sticking with your plans even when other's don't. It's so easy to find excuses to quit and I'm glad you came to us for support. This board is great and can be so supportive!

Welcome to a fellow south alabamian!! I too am from south alabama and I to started out working out with a friend then found myself all alone in the work out depart! So I definitely understand where you are coming from. It helps so much when you have someone to work out with even though I love to work out still...
Good luck and welcome to ya.

Hi Wendy,
Vent/celebrate away! I love it that you've kept up your workouts despite being "abandoned"; I don't know about you, but I actually enjoy some time on my own (especially workout time, as I can't puff and talk at the same time yet). What sort of workouts have you been doing? From your stats, they're obviously working!

(PS-- I almost thought this was a post from my sister-in-law; my favorite nephew is a Tristan, too...)
Hi, Wendy and welcome! My name is Melissa and I am soon to be 30. I am doing Weight Watchers (WW) and have now lost 26.5 pounds. My DH is deployed to Afghanistan and will be there for a year but he is coming home in less than 2 weeks for a 2 week vacation.
My main goal is to get under 200 by March 1st when DH comes home for good. I feel like this is the time.
Good luck to you!!!!
Melissa
Hi Misha,
Hello! It is hard to work out alone on a day to day basis - but I guess it depends on what kind of mood I'm in! Somedays I'd like a friend and other days I'm better alone...I joined a fitness center called HealthActions. For the same price as a gym, I get the benefit of a trainer who I meet with every 8 weeks to track my progress and give me recommendations. It's made a huge difference--especially considering that I would wander aimlessly at the local gym with no direction or clue as to what to do and when to do it...LOL....Right now I'm doing a combination of cardio and weight training three days a week--I just started a cardio aerobics class last Thursday. I almost chickened out of it because I was by far the biggest person in the class--most of the women in there were 100 lbs retirees who just wanted something to do...Needless to say, I stuck it out and struggled through it. I couldn't believe I could do it...Other than that, I'm not really "dieting"--I've cut out the Cokes completely (which was the hardest thing for me) and now only drink diet drinks....I cut out the fast food (almost completely--I do reward myself occasionally only to feel guilty about it later) and just cut down on the other stuff that I do eat.
I look forward to getting to know you and all the other people on this board...I am really looking forward to talking to people that are in the same boat as me! Most of my friends/co-workers are people that have never had weight problems! It makes a big difference!
