Hi, I am new to the boards. I have issues with getting my butt moving and being consistant in my diet. I am 41, married no kids. 230 lbs. I love to swim, walk hike and more but I can;t seem to stay on one thing to exercise. My neighborhood pool has water aerobics classes 3 times a week that I do enjoy. It is to hot to do to much outside except for the swimming classes. I get my period and can't go swim for about 7 days since it takes it toll on me and very heavy in the begining. I don't do tampons so I have to give up that for a week. And I have to keep my monthly cravings in control so I don't eat a pound of pasta or bread! I am going to go to the pool on Saturday morning for a class though.

I have feed my husband to well over the 5 years been married so he gained his 100 lbs back that he lost before I meet him. We are both in a rut. I don't want to see us at 50 years old still trying to loose weight and sit around so much. If I could just get into a routine and stick with it we could both loose the weight. I think 75% of the time we eat right but the other 25% we don't. We both work hard at our jobs and come home and we are tired and stay up late too. A few neighbor friends have more energy and walk together 3 times or more a week in the early mornings. I would love to be able to get up and join them but I know I would do it one morning or two and then quit. They have invited me to go with them but they have already gotten up a fast pace and one is too thin in my book and the other is only a few pounds away from her goal and she looks great.

Need get off my butt! That is the support I am looking for here. I have read some and felt this will help some.

Welcome to the board! I know how hard it is to get motivated to exercise, especially at this time of the year. Don't beat yourself up if you can't stick with anything just yet, instead, why not focus on making your diet healthier? I managed to lose 40 lbs in just a few months in the past without really ever exercising, maybe a walk or two a week and that's it. Granted, I gained it all back after meeting DF, but I'm working on it again :). I found that being extra diligent about my eating habits really made a huge difference on the scale, and after a while, that was enough motivation to actually want to exercise, too. Do you keep a food/fitness diary and record all your activity and food? If not, you might check out www.fitday.com . It's a great site and pretty easy to use. I just keep a journal in the section below because it's even easier. Whatever you do, don't try to do too much too soon and get discouraged. Why not aim for you and your husband to go for one wakl together this week? Maybe a nice long hike on Saturday or Sunday? And if the morning's too hard, try the late evening, I like that time of day better anyway. Good luck!!

welcome to the board! this is a great place to come for support. I know I've learned more than I ever imagined from these ladies.

about working out on your period/when it's hot.. what about using a video.. maybe walk away the pounds or somethin.

eating good is 1/2 the battle for sure. I would really start watching portion sizes and maybe start a food journal to see when, what and why you eat. Drinking water has helped me alot. also go to a place like fitday.com or sparkpeople.com to help get about the calories you take in each day. they are both free. you can also track your exercise there.

the great thing about exercise, is you don't have to just walk, hike, swim etc. You can do any combination of those things.. as long as you are moving more than you ordinarily would each day.. you are exercising!

again welcome to the board, glad to have you!

Hi! And welcome.:)
A great way to start your weight loss is by replacing regular sodas for diet sodas or water. Switching your "regular" foods for lighter versions. (i.e. light mayo,fat-free/sugar-free pudding,low-sodium crackers instead of chips, etc.) Good luck to you. You can do it. A quote I heard at a recent WeightWatchers meeting (I follow that plan).."Nothings tastes as good as thin feels."

Thank you to those who replied to my first discussion! I appreciate the input and yes I do not drink sodas anymore due to acid reflux but I feel better for it. I do drink more water or water based drinks like Crystal light iced tea or make my own.

A food journal is a great idea! Thanks. I have used fitday.com before but the other one mentioned I will have to check out for sure! I feel better already. A walk once a week with my hubby is a great idea too. when I have used fitday.com it did help me keep track of me food intake and exercise. When I did I lost 15 lbs a year ago.

Thanks again!

Hello and welcome to the board.. we're so glad you're joining us. The ladies have already given you a lot of good advice and I really have nothing to add.

I think it's great that you and your husband want to do this together. It becomes easier when you team up with someone. Maybe you can take short walks together instead of walking with your neighbours. And it will be more fun than exercise.

Best of luck to both of you. Keep us posted.
