we just bought a new scale, paid $50 for it.. supposed to be accurate up to 360 lbs..
yah right..

i weigh myself at work on a "doctors style scale"..
my "new" scale. gave me a different weight each time i stepped on it. ranging anywhere from 5-20 lbs higher than what i weighed on my dr's scale.

i'm gonna return it

oh BTW.. did you know that you should not keep your scale in the bathroom... becuase all of the moisture in there (from showers/baths).. will effect the accuracy of it.

That sucks! I would definitely return it if you can. If not, don't blame your scale necessarily on being off. A lot of dr.s scales and/or scales at gyms, etc. can be off because they need to be recalibrated often to be accurate, so maybe yours is the accurate one. The most important thing I've kept in mind with having my scale is that no two scales are going to be the same, so just pick a scale and stick with it. I have one that measures body fat in addition to my weight, and I'm sure it's probably off on that because there are much more accurate measures of body fat %, but all I care about is seeing the #s go down consistently. If my scale says I lost 5lbs and 1% body fat, I know that's true, whether it says the same weight as my doctors or not. Good luck with getting the scale figured out and don't let it bother you too much. Some other things that affect how accurate the scale is are: how level the floor is, how you step on it, where you stand on it and how you stand on it. If you stand with your heels touching the back of the scale, it will probably weigh you differently than if you stand with your toes touching the front. No joke! Just be consistent with where, when and how you weigh, and you should get an accurate judge of how much you are losing.

WOW 5-20 lbs difference! Definitely return it.. I assume you're weighing in at the same time of the day with the same clothes right? Because your weight can fluctuate A LOT through the day.

We're not supposed to keep the scales in the bathroom? Who knew?
