I weigh 460 and my son asked me to lose

The last time I went to the doctor I weighed 460 lbs. I have tried every diet there is and I lost about 100 lb one time on Atkins to gain back about 70 of it. I just cannot live my whole life with few or no carbs. However, the other day my 14 year old son actually asked me to lose weight. Does anyone out there know someone who has lost a massive amount of weight like I have to lose? Does anyone have any idea how to stay motivated, because this is not going to happen quickly. I exercise about three times per week doing water aerobics at the local gym so I am not totally sedentary, but I need a lot of support and encouragement.
Thanks if anyone can help me.

Hi

First of all you came to the right place for support and encouragement.

This will be a long journey but very doable. You will need to keep focused by putting your needs first in conjunction with patience. to make it work, it is a slow process but very well worth it.

I would recommend first speak with your doctor about what program is recommended for you.
I personally did WW with much success. it did take me a few years- with the usual ups and downs. I did not lose every week but my stubborness paid off!!!

My highest weight was a little over 300 pounds and when i weighed in at WW for the first time I was 295 on their scale. i have been at or below goal now 2½ years. I find WW a very healthy diet where you can eat everything you want. I found it to be a journey well worth the effort.

Good luck

First of all, WELCOME! This is a GREAT board that's full of support!

I think Weight Watchers is a great plan. I did it and it wasn't for me, but I have seen so many people that it has worked for. Personally what I have been doing is cutting back on my calories. I have given up fried food (all it does is clog your arteries anyway lol). I exercise which is key

Welcome and good luck to you. I agree that you should consult with your dr. and see what he/she reccommends as far as an eating plan, and you are right that if you can't stick to a plan it won't work so good luck finding something you can stick to.'

Welcome to the group!!! The ladies have already given you such great advice. I also have found great success with Weight Watchers. I do like it because you can eat any type of food. I don't have to limit carbs, etc as you do with other diets. My highest weight was 281 and am currently at 244.

Like you said it's not going to happen overnight so whatever you do just know that we will all be here for you!

Welcome to the board,

these ladies already beat me to the punch and gave you some great advice. If weight watchers isn't in your budget, There are a couple of places you can go online to keep track of your calories and activity. fitday.com and sparkpeople.com are 2 that a lot of us use. Both are free which is a bonus for me! Other than that you might try breaking up your weight loss into smaller more attainable goals to reach for. a lot of us choose 10-20lbs at a time. once you reach that milestone give yourself a non-food reward. Keeping a journal of what, when why you eat has also been helpful to me. most importantly, make sure you want to do this for yourself, not just your son. There is a long road ahead.. it's going to take a lot of hard work, but I know you can do it!

welcome. we all find it hard to stay motivated. (i've had a bad week). but when you fall off you just have to get back on. that's what we are here for.

think to yourself: what is the alternative? i asked myself that everyday, and i can't live the alternative to weight loss.

We are here to help...

The first step with anything is the hardest. YOu do not have to live your life with little or no carbs. Have you tried WW? Or try sparkpeople. It can come up with a meal plan and routine customized to YOU.
