Do you have the mentality that you can't let food go to waste and end up eating even when you aren't hungry or eating unhealthy foods just because they are there? If so, then think of this. Are you really saving the food from going to waste? No! If you are eating in excess of what you need to be eating, then it's still going to waste, so why eat it? Not only is it going to waste, but it's also going to your WAIST, so next time you think about finishing your restaurant meal or that pizza so that it doesn't go to waste, remember that it's going to waste no matter what you do and walk away. You've already gotten your pleasure from the food within the first few bites anyway, so the only thing you are taking away is extra calories.
I just read this in an article and it really made me think. It's so true for me and so many other people, especially with restaurant food. I don't generally like to eat most leftovers from restaurants, so I would struggle to finish a 1/2 lb burger and fries or huge plate of pasta with breadsticks because I wanted to get my $$s worth. I'm actually better at this and will generally take 1/2 of my meal to go or try to get DF to share with me to save $$. Then, I can have a nice dinner 2 days in a row without blowing my diet. And, if I don't eat the leftovers, so what? I didn't need the 500 or 1000 extra calories the day I got it anyway.

Also, most restauraunts will let you order from the "senior" or "kids" section of the menu if you explain to them that you don't want the regular size portions of food. Or you can order the regular portion size, but have them box up half the meal before they bring it to the table, so you can take it home with you for another meal. If your at a fast-food place, order from the kids menu. The portions are probably about the size you SHOULD be eating anyway. Good luck everyone!

Excellent post... I know I have done that..."Oh I might as well eat this last slice of pizza, no sense wrapping up and saving just one"
I have gotten a lot better, I do take left overs home from restaurants now, however I do find that I end up throwing them away after a few days.
But at least I am not eating it.

I have heard that before about the kids meals. If you ever watch the Early Show on CBS, Dave Price who does the weather is from the city where I work. There was a story about him and how he lost a lot of weight and he said he did not give up fast food that he loved, he just stuck to 'happy meals'.
Now if they just made a happy meal that included a Big Mac *lol*

my mom bought me this piece of german chocolate cake with caramel in the middle for this monk jam place here in the Keweenaw, and i wanted to to down it all at once. but i cut it into smaller pieces and rewraped them to save my sanity. the piece had to have like.. a million calories in it.
but come one homemade german chocolate cake with homemade caramel in the middle made by monks who spend all year making jam and delightful goodies for yooper wanna-be's like me to shovel down their throat in wonderful glee.
i'm sorry.. i was daydreaming about eating the whole piece. bad audrey..

I also order from the lunch menu at a lot of restaurants, if they have what I'm really wanting. I do this almost always at Olive Garden and usually try to only eat the salad while I'm there, then I have my lunch sized portion of pasta, one of the light fares anyway, for dinner. It saves me money and is much better for my diet :).

Great post.. it really made me think. I do this all the time.. and not just in restaurants but also at home. I feel super guilty if I throw anything away even if I don't want to eat it. I think I should create a storage system.
If you're at a restaurant do they let you order from the kids menu? Or is it a must to have kids? I never figured that out. I mean fast food joints let you order whatever.. but restaurants?
