cardio vs. weight training????

Hi I have recently decided to commit to losing weight and getting into shape. I have been walking for about 30-45 minutes at the gym everyday. Getting to the gym was bigger than life. Any suggestions from anyone...is weight training better than cardio or is cardio the way to go...I would love to lose 70 pounds BUT 100 would bring me to my ideal weight....HELP!
Thanks!

Hi and welcome to the board
Congratulations on your commitment to go to the gym.. Way to go! I am exercise-challenged myself, so I know how hard it is to just get your butt up and going.
Cardio and weight training are 2 different things.. they both act differently. Cardio burns calories.. weight training tones your body and builds your muscles (plus increase your metabolic rate on the long run). In a perfect world you should combine cardio and weight training.
My advice to you is don't burn yourself out. If you feel that you're able to add weight training to your routine, then by all means do. BUT if it sounds like a burden to you then wait until you're ready. When I do too much too early I get burned out and stop everything.. so don't fall into this trap :)
Again welcome to the board.. I'm looking forward to knowing you better.
