I'm just curious about something. I have to admit that I'm finally just starting to pay attention to my body since I've started WWs almost 2 weeks ago. I remember when I dieted 6-12 months ago, right around my TOM, it seemed like I'd gain up to 5 pounds. IS THAT RIGHT? Can we really gain that much? I was always told we can gain a pound, MAYBE two. I used to flip out thinking "how could I gain so much, I followed the diet 100%?!?", etc. It has actually ruined a weekend or two of mine a few months before I got married in October '05!!! Like planning a wedding wasn't stressful enough. I really let it get to me, then I wouldn't get back on the scale for 2 weeks, cuz I was too afraid. SOOooo, before I weigh in on Monday, I want to know about some your experiences and maybe from now on I can relax and know exactly what to expect.

Personally I'm cheering every hot flash, because I'm so sick of TOM and the fluctuations in weight and mood!

Hi Melissa,

Oh it's absolutely possible to gain 5 pounds... or else your scale and mine are in cahoots! For me, heavy sodium intake is also a factor. But I LOVE the rebound, when the scale suddenly makes sense again. Just try to stay on plan, and know that this too shall pass...

I usually retain water around my TOM, but nothing too major. USUALLY. Note the capital letters. Mother Nature can be a real witch when she wants to though. I've been known to be VERY grumpy, bloated, etc. etc. By the way, "witch" above should be spelled with a "B". :)

Yes it can be retained water weight. I usually retain water before TOM and I can see it in my feet. Sometimes I can't even wear my usual sandals.
